  • Near complete engine

I have an engine that I am pretty sure is from an XS11 that I would like to get rid of. I will get pics tomorrow so any potential buyers can verify. Let me know if you need pics of any specific parts. I do not know the difference between the various XS11 models, but if there are distinguishing marks on anything related to the motor I can look for them.

I picked up the engine 3-4 years ago to use in a four wheeled project, but never got around to it, now it is just taking up space. The bike was sold in a storage unit lien sale, I was told the engine ran when it was pulled. I do have some paperwork for the sale. I was told that I was given everything to make it run, except for the header.

I would prefer to sell the whole thing to someone, but if no one is interested I will consider parting out later.

Engine as a whole is pick up in Huntington Beach, CA, only. Price is best offer.

    Here are pics.

I also have the swingarm and a box of miscellaneous electrical, and what look to be brake parts.

The octopus indicates it is from a Special. The vent hoses from a set of upper "T"s between 1-2 and 3-4 indicates model E (1978) or model F (1979). As the special was introduced in 1979, this makes it a motor from a 1979 SF (Special).

It also has a typical leaky cam chain tension adjuster!

Some things have been switched around on that motor. It has the early carbs (78-9) but no kick starter (80-1). The VIN looks like a 3H5 prefix, which would make it an 80G engine with 79 special carbs (old style with octy). Or, The VIN might be 3H3, which would be a 79 special with the correct carbs and the clutch cover switched and the kick starter removed. The rear axle stuffed in that box looks like a Special axle (hollow end) from a 79, so I'd bet it's a 79 special motor with the kick starter removed.

If I send you a shipping crate, will you box it up and get it to a nearby shipper, or be available when a shipper arrives to pick up?....thanks

I am in Huntington Beach, California, 92648.

I would need more than $50 to box it up, in addition to the actual shipping and packaging cost. I think shipped price of $70 plus shipping and packaging sounds fair. I can have it crated for a pick up, but I don't have a way to get it loaded in my truck once it's crated so I don't think delivering it is an option.

Where did I lose you guys? I really want it gone, but want it to be used as what it is, instead of scrapped. I'm willing to deal.

Is anyone that is in SoCal interested?

                    TurnerGuyBC,
Is the motor froze up? I am in Central Cal. I will be clear in a couple days and am interested. Anyone available to help load the motor?
It is a shame I didn't hear about this a few days earlier. I came through Huntington Beach on the 22nd.
Sent you a pm as well...

                        Bikerphil,
You are right about the motor. All of the paperwork from the sale of the motor to Turner Guy BC lists it as a 79 with a serial number 3J6----.
                        It came from a SH.
