  • Just picked up some xs11 standard parts

I picked up a xs1200 street sweeper this weekend and it came with a pile of parts. If you need stuff odds are I have it. The van was a lowwwww rider on the way home. Good motor, tanks, a few sets of carbs, wheels, side covers, speedos ect.

    The Golden Bounty

Grinning from ear to ear all the way home, eh? (Sweet!!)

any chance that one of the sets of carbs are from a special? usually have 3H3 printed somewhere on the carb body.

All three are 2h7's. one factory, one jetted, one in parts.
I thought the 78 and 79's were the same on special and standard 2h7 MIC's, and the 80 and 81's were the same on special and standard (3H3? HIT's).

        XS11lover,

Dropped my special's carbs today and confirmed "3H3" on every one. It's a 79 according to the title.

Installed my "test carb" bank (2H7's) and confirmed that I'll have to do some tinkering on the 3H3's.

Was just looking to get a set of 3H3's for a test bank and then offer my 2H7's up on the website.

Have fun pickin' through the parts!

It may have a 79 build date, but xs11 Midnights were only made for the 80g and 81h years.

            3H3 vs 2H7 carbs

            XS11lover,

Just checked the serial number chart:

            1979 XS1100SF 3H3-000101 .....Yep! Tha's my bike!

So am sure that it's a Yamaha, certain that it's an 1100 special, factory black paint....Hmmm. Could it actually not be a midnight special?? (Say it ain't so!! Sob...)

Did a carb identifiction search on the site and found that the first three letters of the VIN are sometimes stamped on the carb bodies. I've been acting as if these special carbs are actually different from the standard's.If they're not then I'd be able to swap parts/bodies and that would be a Great thing. Is this one of those "D'uh" moments where I've missed something obvious that everybody else knows?

Just that keeping my XS on the road is about getting the right parts when the old ones give up the ghost. Kinda critical to keep track of what model I have and what parts will fit/work right. Have had a few of those Homer Simpson "D'OH!!" moments lately...

Post a pic, the 79sf was black or red, with silver motor and silver trim. gold logos.
The midnights were black with black motors, black gauges, and gold trim. Like this. It's an 850, but you get the idea....

If your bike is a 79 xs1100SF S=special F=79 It should look like this one.

                D'oh!!

Here's a pic of my bike

Hmmm.. No black motor. No gold trim....(arcing and sparking in my brain cells..)

                (Wait for it....)

                D'OH!

My bike is just a special..(something is wrong with that statement but I've just used up my one moment of brilliance for the day...)

Much thanks, XS11lover. I will change my signature immediately after this post.

Yup It's a 79 xs11 special (sf), and a nice one too. That's a factory high back seat and bar. There aren't many of those seats around. I'm not a big fan of the Midnights anyway.......
