  • XJ parts

I have sold the Bike (miss it already)and I have a bunch of left over parts. Partial list below. If anyone is interested please make me an offer. No reasonabole offer refused. Someone on this board might as well get them.

1 good TCI, 1 TCI with an intermitant short, still works but drops 1 and 4 on occasion. Coils with wires and caps, complete air box, floats, assorted jets, float bowls, diaphram covers, numerous manifold boots(exterior cracks but still usable). Probably some other carb parts that I have forgotten. If anyone is interested let me know. I would just as soon let all the carb parts go as a lot, but like I said, I am flexible.

      XJ Parts

Any parts left? I am thinking my TCI may be bad on my 1982 XJ 1100.

      Thanks,

      Chad

          TCI box and other?

          Hello Cokeman,

Is the TCI box that works from a 1982 XJ1100 Maxim? Also you mentioned some other parts?

          Please e-mail me at Chad.sherack@dnr.state.mn.us

I will be out of town most of this week with work. If you have a working TCI Box for my fixer upper I would be interested in hearing from you.

I picked this bike up as a project this winter and it is definitely got me busy. It was missing alot of cosmetic items such as side covers, air box assembly, rear aluminum bracket/backrest, and several other items. I figured if I could get it running I would work on the rest as I came upon needed items. I did replace what was left of the fuse box and put a battery in it, but this electrical troubleshooting has stumped me. I came to the point that it has to be the TCI box after testing everything else.

Anyways look forward to hearing from you.

          Chad

                TCI box was the problem...

                Cokeman,

The TCI box was the problem! Thank you so much for the shipment! I have now jumped into the Carbs, wow! is that another complicated issue. I am going to pods since I have no air box and I also was given a 4 into 1 set of pipes so I am comtemplating setting up for that. I am not sure I am qualified to rebuild the carbs but I am giving it a try. I have taken on many tasks in the past but this bike I have aquired is testing me... Does anyone have a good soaking solution for the Carbs?

                Thanks again,

                Chad

I read about fuel hookups without all the mumbo jumbo but I lost it. Does anyone have it again so I can print it out for assembly? I don't want to use the vacuum system. What should I do with the Vent/Vacuum Tube?

                  some stuff i picked up

I believe soaking is not a good thing for our carbs -seals can be damaged. More like disassembly and cleaning . Search for lots of info .
Re-jetting for pods alone can be tricky .Pods and 4-1 is tricky-er.
Vent tube can be run above the carbs with a small inline filter on it.
Once again - use the search feature above and there are lots of articles on these subjects in depth

Actually the carbs are fairly simple to work on.t take your time and follow the manual and you will be alright, just don't soak them in carb cleaner. I use the carb spray cleaners and compressed air when I do my carbs. I find that is all you really need unless the carbs are extremely gummed up. Glad to hear I could help you out, better to help keep another XJ on the road than to sit with a garage full of parts that I won't use for a while. You never know, I just may buy another project bike someday. Right now I am working on 2, A 500 virago and a 82 goldwing with bad rod bearings. May have to find a transplant engine for this one. Should keep me busy for a while

As far as pod filters are concerned I ran pod's on another XJ I had. The new Jets in the package should work for you. These are what I was running and the bike ran great. Use the 122.5 mains and the 47.5 pilots, should be good to go. Just remember to set the float heights correctly. These bikes are rather finicky that way.

                    Good luck

                      What do you have left?

                      Hey Cokeman,
I just bought a non-running '82 XJ and I'm wondering what you have left and how much moola you're looking to get for it. Also, if you have the manual for it, I would be very interested in it.
                      Thanks, Cobia

                          Guage cluster condition?

                          Hey Cokeman,
What condition is the cluster in? Is all the labeling for the lights and other items still readable or is it like mine half worn off? How much do you want for it? Pics?
