1980 Midnight Special in Montana w/parts & gear

For sale is a 1980 Yamaha XS1100LG Midnight Special packaged with a large assortment of XS related parts and gear. Asking $4500 or reasonable offer, cash in Three Forks, Montana, 59752. Clear Montana title. S/N 4H3-001487 of this very limited edition. The picture with name and date, as required, somehow ended up at the end of the post. Also, the mufflers in the parts pics are gone.

I am the second owner, purchased in 2001 after the original owner had it in storage for a dozen years. Actual mileage is around 25,000 miles but current speedo reads 3800. In about 2004 I replaced the original speedometer with a low mileage one from ebay thinking it was defective but it turned out to be a bad cable. The fully working original speedometer is included. Always garaged and regularly maintained. It's spent the last 17 years in storage with the last 100+ mile ride being in 2004. Recently, after replacing carb needle and seats and boots, it fired right up and rides wonderfully. I didn't do a complete carb clean/rebuild, just enough to stop the common XS11fuel leak. The new (and old) jets and other parts from the carb kits are included. It's not a completely stock bike but would require minimal restoration and some tuning and basic maintenance to yield a fantastic ride.

The left stock exhaust has a dent and scrapes on the aftermarket highway bars are from a minor tipover. The seat could use re-covering. The cracked old cover is sealed with rtv but the padding is undamaged (seams cracked during prior storage period). The paint on the steering head is chipping and nooks and crannies still have dust and there are a few scratches in the powdercoat on the rack. There's a bit of rust spotting on black finish that needs waxing out.

The front forks have Progressive springs and one of the rare TKAT fork braces. The windscreen is a Slipstreamer Enterprise and there's a used dust spare windshield in the parts collection. The rear rack is a genuine Yamaha accessory with adjustable backrest with pocket which can be used with the king/queen seat for solo rides if you're not using a seat bag. The fuse box has been replaced with one that uses bladed fuses. There's some additional wiring I used for a heated vest and driving lights but the ends have been terminated.

There are several sets of luggage I used in years of travel. I used Tourmaster Cortech soft bags since they are versatile and have buckles to clip them together. The sunbleached set consists of upper pair of saddlebags with a cooler between that buckles to another set that rests on the upper seat. One bag has a bad zipper but the web straps still work as a backup. The smaller set of Cortech luggage has a center bag that buckles to the saddlebags or can be used alone (with attached bungees) as a seat or rack bag. I used the backpack with functional taillight on a few trips. It has a zip off top bag but always seemed awkward for soloing.

I've tried to show the included parts I've saved from a bunch of XS11s I've owned. Instruments including the original from this Midnight Special, trinkets and partly assembled models. I never got around to fabricating the remaining parts of the trailer hitch. A pair of detachable aerostich heated handgrip covers. Pickup coils. New oil and air filters. A main resistor. New and used gaskets, petcocks, deleted "octopuses. Seat mount rubbers, turn signals etc. Restorable Slipstreamer windshield with mounts. Nice cover although it has a fixable 6x6 inch tear. Here's a url from Craigslist with pictures.
