  • Looking for advice

I am looking to help my father sell his motorcycle. Unfortunately his body can not allow him to ride anymore.

1979 xs eleven (e) -one owner
    as well as trailer.
    32K miles on odo.
I have no idea what its worth,

Sorry your Dad is getting weaker, but it is not far off for many of us here on the forum.

The condition looks excellent in the pictures - even the aluminum parts seem to look nice.

The matching trailer adds value for someone who wants it.

In Michigan. I think the bike itself might sell for $2500, and the trailer itself might sell for $1000......so in Michigan I would list it at $3500-$4000 range.

    Let's see what others think.

+1 on what Radioguylogs said. I think his assessment is accurate and fair. Unfortunately, our beloved XS11’s are way under-appreciated by the bike community for some reason which I don’t understand, and sometimes it’s hard to find a buyer, However if you find an old nostalgic buyer, I think you might get 4k for the setup, IF it is in good running order and mechanically road worthy as it sits.. But Like Mike said, a lot of us XS'ers are getting older now. I myself am rounding the corner and headed down the home stretch towards 70 years old! So, in my opinion the market and demand is shrinking with time. Timing is everything and a lot of luck thrown in helps too. It’s a very nice-looking bike and I hope it goes to someone who will care for it as well as your father obviously did.

Maybe you can get your bike license and enjoy that nicely setup bike.
Not much demand for the old touring setups. I am with Mike @ ~ $3500 if it's turn key and it may take a while to get that. Check what the same vintage gold wings are going for as a guide.

Is the trailer a tent or luggage space?

Agree, total setup $3500-$4000 range. I'd also reiterate that the market for the whole package is limited, hate to split them up but you'd probably move the sale along if you did.

Bike is currently in SW Colorado, I'm about 8 hrs away from him in NE Colorado. Makes it hard to help him.
              it runs.
              trailer is just storage.

That baby is decked out! Being early in the season is in your favor for a sale. Maybe eBay it?

Is that some sort of kickstand out in front of the shifter?

Those are highway pegs off the crash bars... next to extra driving lights.

The bars that I'm talking about are under the side covers. Looks to be an adjustable height front wheel lift for maintenance. I have never seen anything like that on a bike. Pretty awesome add-on.

FOR SALE : ASKING $4000 FOR BOTH BIKE AND TRAILER.

I've thought about posting for sale on local Craigslist or ebay.... any opinions where to best get it sold?

No opinion, but I can say that a couple of weeks ago, we sold out motorhome on Craig's List in a matter of hours. That's the second motorhome we sold on Craig's List in the past 10 years.

In the past year, I sold an XS750 on Craig's List. That one took about a week to sell for $1200.

I don't provide my phone number in the ad because there is always a deluge of phishing responses via text. I ask buyers to contact me via the Craig's List anonymous e-mail system. If they seem sincere, I provide my phone number if they haven't volunteered theirs yet.

The eBay market might involve shipping, but it probably reaches more potential buyers.

That is a very fair price for what you have there.
