Of course you are new to the site! Who else would post a for sale ad with only a couple of posts? Really, I am quite concerned with how many join just to sell their junk. I may be alone in this thinking but why do we get all these poof's who think we are a for sale only forum?

Relax Doug...its not junk...however i had thought in a similar vein...this is not craigslist or ebay...we are a legitimate website that is mostly dedicated to preserving and keeping these venerable machines on the road...so it iss somewhat disappointing to see this site being used as a clearinghouse... if that is all you care about then we can easily find your ad on CL or fleabay...We do welcome new members of all backgrounds and you are ofc welcome here...but if your only reason to be here is to sell then its really your loss...for you have no knowledge of the greatness that exists here...

Good job on your restore! Putting a neglected XS11 back on the road is definitely in the spirit of what this forum is about. I hope your sale goes well, otherwise keep it and and enjoy it! Expect every detail to be picked apart, however, and be careful not to take it personally

To Rasputin's point, I'm not concerned with members joining and trying to sell. Personally, I'm surprised that not a single person I've bought an XS11 from has heard of this site. There's always the chance they come here to sell, then realize what kind of support they can get here and either find another project or decide to keep their bike. There's also the possibility the bike is bought by a dedicated member.

If this were a botched bobber or otherwise destroyed example, outrage would be warranted and I would expect no less.

The new member welcoming committe- Ra-ASS-putin

You know my brother bought XS11 when we were young (somewhere in my mid 20s, it was the first bike took my wife for a ride on (definitely the reason she ride with today), I loved that bike, still remember the commercial at the race track, a guy standing there with a stop watch and all you is a blur go by.
Well about the time the bike broke down, his kids were getting a little older (costing more money) he could not afford to fix it , well it sat in his garage dismantled for 21 years until asked him (he loved that bike to) if I could have and fix it up, well he said I could have it and before I ever had chance to come pick he contracted cancer and within 3 months had passed.
Well that made the it of much more sentimental value, so took it and restored pretty much like on E-Bay but metallic Black, it's a beautiful bike.
Well before my brother passed, his didn't' he had given me the bike and asked his dad (my brother) if he could have it and of course he told him he had given the bike to me so to make this story, after restored this bike I gave the back to my brothers son.
Well I like the bike so much I bought the one you see E-Bay for my son and he rides it well, it's just really too big for him (he's buck 40 & 5.5) and now I'm trying sell it to get him something smaller that he can control better but he loves the bike but when it gets tilted he can't keep it up.
On another note I have gotten this site and ask questions about a wobble I had on the black bike whereas I got great feedback, was even was trying to get a seat and speed for these rebuilds.

So Mr. ASS-Putin if I were you I would not any assumptions any new members (you Don't know a d@m thing about me buddy and it's obvious you'be been on the site long enough think you spew this kind of crap), well is certainly not members like you who make other members not welcome just want to quit being a member (D-Head).
I even have an 81 Venterer so Don't call me poof or a fly- by-nighter buddy.

Personally, it doesn't bother me a bit to see posts like the OP. Yeah, the site rules say you need a minimum number of posts before you offer items for sale, but I wouldn't want to miss out on a nice bike because of minimum posts. And even if I wasn't interested, that looked like a heckuva nice machine. Price does seem a bit stiff, but in the end a bike is worth what you can get for it. If it said Bob Jones on it people would be lining up to pay the money, and it never hurts to ask for what you think it's worth. Worst thing that happens is it doesn't sell.

But the thing that got my attention on that bagger is the paint. It's pretty obvious that you've repainted the entire rig, and I'd be interested in hearing about how you did it. Not that I'm interested in buying - just interested in the process.

So if you want to be part of the forum, do a little info sharing and the negative comments will go away pretty quick. And personally I'd like to see a guy like you around regularly who obviously has some expertise in making an XS shine.

It may not be worth it but the things not original on the bike is the paint job (Maroon faded to green and the original way is outdated collector or not), handlebars (bent), grips (falling apart), Venturer Oil Cooler (which made it run better and cooler) and the speedo (kept braking cables, tend to drive faster than speedo capability on long trips and do like to know how fast I am really traveling) and it could not be left as it was, I believe everything I did to that bike made it a better looking, riding and running bike.

But all those original parts still parts (save for the grips and handlebars) will still comes with the bike and I believe it is tin the kind of condition that would justify that price but I'm a beginner at XS11 value game but not the custom bike value game

I do appreciate your input though, I'm sure if it doesn't sell then I'll either try to make another run at it or keep it, my son really does like it.

I did choose the color (I was actually going for a bit more of a little bit darker maroon color) but not the mix, let me have a discussion on Monday with my paint body guy and I can give you much more detail on the process.

What I can tell you right now is that it did start with your normal gray primer, then the first and second coats of paint were metallic copper (I mean like shiny penny copper, it was a pretty cool color all by itself), then he added a couple coats mixed with clearcoat & candy red (i'm not exactly sure what color red, I just know it was candy), then the wet sanded and & buffed and polished.

Right now that would be the best I can offer but's a beginning, just let me have word with him this next week and and I'll reply with the info I get.

My apologies for sounding so critical...It is an attractive bike and I do love the Venturer look...and given there is a real history and passion it garners more respect than i initiailly gave it...I actually have a Venturer fairing out in my shed though it needs a complete makeover, i've always wanted to have that look on my 79F...one of these days... As others have said people will pay what they feel it is worth to them...so who is really to say? We have seen them selling for much more...the thing that many people value is originality and that garners more $ than bikes that have features that were not original...
