Dang-dang. A full dresser, stock pipes, and in my state. $600, and I could sit on this thing until I was ready to work on it. Hmm . . . Nah. Girlfriend would kill me. I have enough fun, and have a full touring setup.

Very observant Ben. That was me.

I was supposed to pick it up after work last Thursday night, but he sold it to his 'buddy' during the day Thursday.

Strange thing was that I had contacted him the previous weekend, and he was getting a new gas tank... and he hoped to get it going and keep it. Four days later he found a car he wanted to buy, and he was willing to sell the bike for $600 immediately.

I think the add was legit, and he doesn't have his act together enough to delete the CL posting.

I did have some friendly communication with him after the sale- enough to let him know I'll be interested if/when his buddy gives up on it. By then the float towers will be broken and the brake caliper pistons will bugered.

              Good work.

Funny thing....like Ian...I thought my wife would cringe at another bike. Granted, I had to "think about selling one of the XS750s".

When that the seller reneged, she kept saying she was sorry and how much I much be disappointed. I think it hurt her worse than it did me because she expected I wanted it so badly.

I'm happy to have what I do. If something else comes along, I'll be watching.

I think a V4 is in my future sometime, like maybe a Vmax, V65, or a Venture.

Oooh la la! I've always wanted a Vmax till I rented one, and realized how impractical and uncomfortable they are. I looked at a V65 Sabre, and like someone on here (Todd?), I passed. It did not thrill me as-much as I was hoping for. I really wanted an FJ1200, till I found this Katana to be a better fit. I feel good about purchasing the 1100 Katana. Full Krauser luggage, and it's fast enough.

Yeah Mike, the Sabre was fun, but you're not going to get the "wow" factor that you're probably looking for. The Vmax will give that to you in a straight-away, but handles like a pig in the corners. If I was you, I'd look into something like a late Interceptor with bags, or a Katana 1100. The ST is a tank too, but with less HP at the wheel. Any one of those bikes will put a $hi*-eating grin on your face!

                        Hi, Mike -

                        Re: Vmax

                        Practical? No ...

Comfortable? Not really, unless you limit your trips to 50 miles or less ...

Actually, for me, the riding position was nearly perfect ... it was the stock saddle that made the bike uncomfortable for anything but commuting and/or short rides.

But ... due to the small tank, poor saddle, and the irresistible urge to grab a handful of throttle, you would be searching for fuel after not much more than 50 miles anyway.

But the 1st Gen. Vmax was never about practicality or comfort ... it was about straight-line muscle/acceleration, pure and simple.

The chassis/brakes/suspension were barely adequate, if even that, to handle all that power ... so aggressive cornering was, well ... interesting!

That didn't bother me one bit ... because I used the bike for it's intended purpose.

The Max was my daily commuter for several years, and I loved every minute of it ... just twist the throttle, and the fun meter goes off the scale!

                        Such an adrenaline rush!

And it had that visceral, hot-rod snarl of an exhaust note, to boot!

This is not my bike, but it is identical to the Vmax I owned, right down to the color and Dunlop Qualifier tires:

I SURE DO MISS MY MAX!

That picture and your description are mostly what I was dreaming about. I'm addicted to the XS11 acceleration rush. I hope my rear tire lasts until XSSE.

I'm still not very aggressive in the corners, although I try to improve my skills here and there.

The seat on my XS11SF doesn't seem that comfortable after an hour.

Most of my riding is an hour after work on a weekday, or for an hour or two on Saturday; to enjoy the countryside and stop at the State Parks and enjoy the water views.

I really enjoy hearing about others' experiences. Thanks for your remarks.

Hey Mike- I'll still consider myself a novice in the corners on this bike. It's funny, as I can touch pegs on my GSXR in the corners, but my bike is too shaky (steering head bearings may need to be done)in the corners. I used to like going low on freeway on-ramps until this season hitting a tar snake, and I thought for sure the bike was going down. Have not done it since, and it shook my confidence. At the Lost Rallys, these guys rode hard in the corners, so I stayed back with Brent, which was fun. I could not figure-out how some were pushing through so hard. Found-out, some were in 3rd gear, using engine braking, where-as I was in 5th half the ride trying to keep-up.
