  • Selling grampa's bike

    http://www.kijiji.ca/v-view-details....Activated=true

At first I wanted to repair and rebuild it myself but as my username says, I'm a blank slate when it comes to bikes. One of the moderators on here was telling me that I had to do a carb test, anyway I lost all the valuable info he gave me and don't know what to do. Gramps gave me the okay to sell it, so that's that. Kinda sad about selling it to be honest.

    Hi Blank Slate,
while spring is certainly a good time to sell a motorcycle yours is in need of a lo of TLC and a good clean. Good luck with your sale.
$1100 is high for a non running 36 year old bike.

Well son..I'm afraid Phil is correct...usually a non running XS11 will not be worth more than $500 USD...

Actually yes...then you would not be a blank slate anymore... LOL...it has been done many times here... You couldn't possibly find a better resource than this forum...and there must be some XSives who live up your way... I'm sure your Grampa would be happy to see you resurrect her too. these bikes in proper tune still hold their own today...

Looking at your XS11...It will run...it needs carbs cleaned and re-synched... dump the old gas and check to see that the tank is clean...it needs a fresh battery and it wouldnt hurt to to change the spark plugs and oil/filter and air filter as well...if the motor turns freely then it will run...it does not take that much to get the old skoot running once again...those are pretty much the basics and all the info you need and hopefully help...is here...hope you decide to resurrect it...good luck

Well, I broke a mental barrier yesterday when I took a wet rag to it. Looks much better already

With respect to parts, gramps said he would pay for parts. All I have to do is order the right ones. How is it that parts are still available for a 37 year old bike? Is Yamaha still making them or are they used/refurbrished from used bikes?

depends what parts they are some things are un obtainable like a stock exhaust...even aftermarket has stopped production...other things still made by Yamaha but each year the list gets shorter...sometimes you gotta take used parts off a donor bike...the main thing is that the expertise and help is here...whatever info you had that you lost can be reacquired...its all here...Dont be afraid to ask...there are no stupid questions...
