    1981 midnight and 1979 special $700

I have a 1981 Midnight Special that is in need of finishing (still needs quite a bit of work) it does start and run but it needs some fine tuning and syncronizing. I purchased a 1979 special to use as a parts bike but soon found out that a lot of the parts are different. I would like to get 700 for the two of them. I have pics if you would like to see them.

I believe your '79 may actually be an XS1100SG. That would make it a 1980 model.

I see what appears to be an 85 mph speedometer vs. the 160 mph unit on the SF. It also appears to have the heavy aluminum grab rail that goes around the seat. The '79 had a chrome plated steel tubular grab rail. The carburetors look like they might have chrome steel tops. The '79 carburetors had aluminum tops. The '80 had slotted brake rotors, but yours could have easily been swapped. Is there a slotted rotor on the back? It also has an 80/81 pilot box on it.

The serial number will tell all.

wow, you are way up there in Maine. I am really interested. How soon are you looking to sell these? I mean, are you moving and need to get rid of them by a certain time or are you just trying to clear space in the garage? Reason I ask is that I am currently deployed and won't be home till January at the earliest.

I could put a deposit down possibly.

Do you have the seat for the special? any other parts laying around that would come with the bikes?

                    Thanks a lot,

                    Adrian
