  • 1979 XS1100 For Sale

Don't know if anyone remembers me from years back when I lived in Kansas City, but work and life has brought me to St. Louis and unfortunately I'm going to have to part with my 1979 XS1100 Special.

It's in great working condition - the fuse box has been redone (courtesy of everyone's help here online!) and it's been running great for me these past few years. I just don't have the time to ride anymore like I did, and with a house purchase and move on the way, I'd rather it go to someone that can enjoy/appreciate it more than I can put the time into it.

I can send pictures if anyone's interested - I haven't listed the bike up anywhere else yet because I wanted users here to have first dibs on it as I know people here would really appreciate it. I was going to ask $1500 for it, but am negotiable/flexible on it as long as the bike's going to someone that can really appreciate it.

It's not stock as the seat has been replaced (with probably one of the most comfortable ones my back end has ever experienced) prior to me purchasing the bike - the exhaust pipes were also redone prior me purchasing it. I did replace the gas tank, fuse box, headlight assembly and gauges (the gauges just went out due to their age) but they were all replaced with stock parts - the tank's blue though, and the badging isn't on the bike anymore after the tank was replaced.

Please let me know if anyone's interested - I can provide pictures or anything else is anyone is interested. My cell is 816-591-9062 and you can text me as well. I figured I'd give it a few weeks before opening it up to Craigslist and the like. Thanks guys!

    hi Wolfpaws,
Your description sounds good however some pictures will go a long way to creating some interest. I am not in the market for a Special.

I was actually getting them taken this weekend and put up here - just that time got away from me today with packing and everything else (purchased a house, working on moving - so busy busy busy!) Hopefully I can get them up tomorrow!

        Pics and online listing

Since I can't figure out how to link the pictures, here's the link to my Craigslist listing for the bike. Anyone on the XS11 forum I'll let have the bike for $1500, but for Craigslist people I'm starting at $1800. You guys have all been a lot of help here in the past, and I really do appreciate it!!

Don't know if anyone's looked at my posting or not - I've renewed it again online. I've gotten zero hits/inquiries on it - is the price I'm asking too high? Or is there just not much call for this bike any longer?

I have a 1979 Yamaha XS1100 Special available for sale - running condition, clean and clear title - I just haven't had time to ride it anymore and it's been in the garage for the last year. Since it's been sitting, I'd recommend getting an oil change and the battery possibly swapped out - like I said it will start and run, but probably needs a can of Seafoam run through it just to get everything cleaned out good. I'm moving and would rather not move the bike with me and have it go to someone that can enjoy/ride it like it's meant to be used!

Please, serious inquiries only - things are rather hectic at the moment as I prepare for a move, but am more than happy to answer any questions and show you the bike. It's been garage kept as well.

Some improvements have been made - the tank is newer, and I did replace the fuse box on it with a newer one a few years back, so the new style fuses work fine with it. Also, I have the parts to rebuild the carbs if anyone's interested in those as well - after getting the parts found out I didn't need to do it so just kept them handy.

            Wolfpaws,
What you have is a special interest motorcycle. I have one as do most of the folks reading this. Yours looks pretty good, but I'm not in the market for another unless it's cheap enough to use as parts, or flip. There's no telling what your local market is. You may just have to be patient. Good luck!

IMO, neither of the above...........just majority of belts have tightened up, cept for the few who have the cash and prefer an original OEM older bike.

its a cool bike but it is hard to sell bikes on this site for people like it on the cheap...not that I can blame them at all...but as a seller its not the best place...its not set in stone that...it just depends on timing and luck. put it on CL. I've had more luck selling with CL even with all the bs spammers...you just gota know what you are looking at...GLWS

It's all about finding the right buyer and hope that he's searching on craigslist at the moment you're selling. The guys who scan CL all the time for these bikes are either die-hards (like us) trying to get one cheap to fix up or a kid trying to find his first motorcycle.

If this was in Michigan I'd know someone who'd happily give you $1500 for yours since he just sold his '79 special for $1700 . Doesn't help that we're nearing the end of riding season. If this was listed in the March timeframe it'd FLY out of the door...well maybe

These bikes seem to sell well on ebay for some reason. Maybe try listing it there? I've always seen eBay XS11s go for WAY more than I've ever seen someone pay on CL.

Well, I dropped the price on it a bit and we'll see what happens. Haven't had any reliable luck with Craigslist at all - but we'll see if dropping the price a bit helps. I really hate to do that, but I'm limited on space at the new place too.
