I got a new bike about a month ago and I think i'm going to sell my 79 special. I was going to keep it but I don't plan I riding it as much as I used to. These bikes are like fine violins and need to be ridden. I'm going to put it on craigslist but i'm not sure for how much. Here is the story, I got the bike 4 years ago and it had been sitting for a few years. I cleaned the carbs and rebuilt the master cylinder and installed a cb750 handlebar. It has brand new rubber intake boots and new pod filters. It has a installed TC fuse box (thanks again). The seat cover is shot, it needs new grips, the tank has a few dings and scratches, and the side covers are cracked. Oh yea the left mirror bolt vibrated off while I was ridding but I caught the mirror and I will fix that. Should I fix these things or is it not worth it? The thing runs excellent and I used to take it on plenty of long millage trips and the thing never let me down. Any input on what I should price it at would be appreciated. I am sad to sell her being my first bike and all but someone else can have a blast with it.

Howdy VW,,,,let us know what part of California you are in as price can differ in the state a bit. I would guess 500 to 899 would be fair if it runs good but rough cosmetically and has a clear title with no backfees. Craigslist is a good way to go but also on this site, just post price, location, maybe a few more pics and you are good to go. If you are in the southern part of the state I could be interested..............Mike in SUn DIegomike

The bike is located in Monterey California. I just moved here from Sacramento where it spent its whole life. A month ago I rode the bike from Monterey to Santa Barbara down hwy 1 and back. She shifts smoothly through all gears and is very fast. The bike has a clear title and registered until November. I will post more pics or a video so yall can hear her purr tomorrow or soon after.

Hey VWlord,
I live in Denver and might be in the California area in June. My first bike was a '79 XS1100 SF that I recently broke which I am very ashamed of doing because I truley love everything about these bikes. Basically everything is fine on my bike except the engine.
How many miles does the bike have on it? I bought my first bike for $1,000 with around 25k miles on it.
Let me know if you're interested in selling your bike to another avid XS1100 fanatic.
PS: When I bought my bike it was a cruiser and I took it from Austin,TX to Denver,CO and loved every minute of it.Last edited by Mad_Max13; 05-29-2014, 07:40 PM.

+1 on sell it as is. I know of a person in Watsonville that used to have one, and told me he would like another one! PM me and I can get his info Monday so you may not have to list it at all. I would think $700 would be a good price as is, this time of year.
Oh, and Ed is now in Monterey, off Munrus. He and I ride almost every Sunday, so PM if you would like to go for an easy ride and ONE beer near the end of it.Ray Matteis
