I am inclined to agree. It would be worth more if he had invested the time and effort to return it to stock. May be too late for that.

At least $3,000 too high. Looks thrown together, ( or taken apart?) especially the clunky seat/ rear end treatment, very awkward looking, with no style. JMHO.

To top it off, that thing won't perform. I expect cheap shocks, stock worn out front end, dry steering bearings, no fenders or fork brace, open untuned exhaust, etc. It's a piece of garbage with what some might consider a cool paint job. It appears you can still salvage a nice motorcycle under there, but at not much more than 20% of the asking price. (if you like that sort of thing)

Is it just me, or is something weird going on with the mufflers? Looks like the one on the right side has the bottom chrome and top black, while the left one is all-black. Weird. No front fender either.

Also, however cool they are, it seems like those bars would make the riding position somewhat uncomfortable. Especially on a "long" bike like the XS11 in combination with the "standard" position footpegs.

It just comes down to personal style and preference. Most of you don't like this bike, and I get it. Lots of members of this forum are purists, and believe absolutely stock is the only way to go, or stock with legitimate upgrades (fork brace, stainless brake lines, etc.), and that's cool too.

Personally, when I look at the bike, I think 'hey, someone made a standard into a decent looking bike'. I don't want that to offend anyone, just my opinion. Yes, this bike does look like it was built fairly inexpensively (hey, so was mine), and no, I don't think its worth the starting bid.

If you wanted a bike like this and didn't possess the skill to do it yourself, you probably couldn't procure a good bike as a starting foundation and have a good shop build it into this for less than the $4500 opening bid. The seller just needs to find the right buyer.

PS, my bike is way more radically customized than this, which is why I'm afraid to show you haha.

You missed the point. If the suspension was upgraded to transform the machine, and it had a tuned exhaust, and maybe new carburetors, maybe some nice rearsets, Acewell meters....... Any improvements might justify (he still wouldn't get it) a higher asking price. What it looks like is irrelevant in this case. It's just an old bike with a lot of missing parts.

B&S, I hear ya and don't mean any disrespect to bike builders. I'm actually glad they're out there because it gives me something interesting to look at and adds some variety to the motorcycle scenery. But when it comes down to choosing something to ride, a lot of the custom bikes don't actually improve rideability. The riding position of this bike looks tortuously uncomfortable. If this bike had some sort of rear set pegs or even still had the passenger foot pegs, that might help a bit. Anyway, as long as it has two (or 3) wheels and someone likes riding it, I'm good with it.

It looks dumb. Having "built" an XS11 to be something not stock I have to say it looks like he had a target he was trying to hit and he missed. I'm still in shock about the price.

Marty has some good points. He calls it a "racer" but nothing about it made to race. At that price I would be expecting flatside carbs, modern front end, megacycle cams, dual piston calipers front and back, drilled/slotted rotors front and back, big bore, etc. This is a joke. "top end rebuild" more like he replaced the head gasket...just another wannabe bike builder IMO destroying classics. If you're going to chop do it right and make sure you have enough $$$ to see it all the way through and not cut corners on styling.

Check out what appears to be tack-welded roof flashing for side covers. At least they upgraded the forks with a pair from a GXSR...
