It doesn't have the original speedometer. That's pretty pricey for undocumented mileage.

Where does the 1000 units built come from? I've never seen documentation proving that theory. Midnights seemed plentiful back then, and they seem to turn up often now.

+1.........funny how urban myths find their way to this point.

In actual reality, the 81H(Venturer) likely had the LEAST production numbers as a model of the XS11. Trying to fit one in the touring segment competing with the Wing, Beemers and such back then didn't get the advertising or attention, least from what I saw back then. Riding both the new Wing(Aspencade) and Venturer(same one I own), there was no comparison as far as performance and handling, plus, at my age then it was still all about performance, not practicality or total comfort........the rest is history.
81H Venturer1100 "The Bentley" (on steroids) 97 Yamaha YZ250(age reducer) 92 Honda ST1100 "Twisty"(touring rocket) Age is relative to the number of seconds counted 'airing' out an 85ft. table-top.

Whats happened to - No.1 header pipe (discoloured)? .....Ignition cover? ....Carb leaking onto starter motor?

Should the speedometer be an 85mph?

Yes. Speedo should be of the 85 mph variety. Those 85 mph speedometers slowed us down, don't you know?
