  • 1980 MNS in Wisc. (Ebay)

Odometer shows only 99.5 miles ...

    But look at his price!

He says bike was "sent out for gold plating" due to "some tarnishing". Is it just me, or have the engine fins been highlighted with gold paint, or ???

And what's with the first 3 digits of the serial #/VIN? It looks like it originally said 4H3 (correct for this model), but looks strange ...

What do you guys think of this one?

      Wisconsin MNS

MN Specials seem to be increasing in value for sure. The original tires possibly verify the low mileage. VIN clarification is definitely a must. The gold fins are not helping. I believe the tank emblems could be the wrong ones, but not absolutely sure. An up close and personal viewing of the bike is in order prior to purchasing. I suspect an offer of less than $10,000 will be made. Can't wait to see what she ultimately sells for.

It could be the angle of the photo, but those don't look like the original Midnight Special handlebars. Midnight Virago bars would not have been available in 1980. If I'm right, that throws up a flag.

Red Flag?? Tires look worn. Tires are worn from pushing, he says?? Don't know, but, tires seem to show wear, and a lot of it. Bike looks sweet, though.

I would say those were some pretty hard rough 99 miles for the tires to have all the nubbies worn off and look that worn.

I was wondering about the fins on the engine and the valve cover being gold. The fork cover emblem looks quite funky to me. Unless the MNS fork cover was THAT different.

I have the funny feeling this bike was a MNS with a bad motor that has another engine in it that was painted and the VIN scratched to obscure it's standard/special heritage.

The Yamaha badge on the fork cover I believe is correct as they were a bit different from the SG, if you look closely at the handle bar mounts you will notice that the plastic plugs are missing so I would suspect the bars have been off or possibly switched. I would agree that the rear tire looks to have a lot more than 99 miles on it. I have seen several MNS specials and to the best of my recollection the fins on the valve covers were gold. The foot pegs also look to have more than the mileage indicated. It must have been a very bad riding season in the Summer of 1980 if it only got 99 miles on it.

                    Looks like no sale

Well, this listing ended earlier today with, apparently, no buyer. Seller didn't have a "Best Offer" option ...

                    Maybe he'll relist it ...
