    http://chicago.craigslist.org/nwc/mcy/4312497507.html

What do you guys think this could be had for? That other special that is super clean is still listed as well, dropped from 1400 to 1300.

I'd love to start modding a STD over a special, may try to pick this one up cheap

That looks to be a Venturer tank. Not too many of those left. If you do buy it and want to start "hak-ing" away at it, if you're okay with it, offer the Venturer tank for trade for a regular Standard tank.

I was wondering! The shape looked slightly different than a standard to me. What's the difference? It almost appears to point downward in front

I believe the Venturer bike was actually a Special frame (don't quote me on that). But, that may be the reason why it can use Special pipes. I assume it was Yammy's way to cut costs.

The Venturer was the only official touring model of the XS line. Came from the factory dressed.

Second pic shows the tank in the right position.

Looks to be an '80G with Venturer tank and Special speedo and tach.

          Foot rest brackets are Standard.

          1977 XS650D ( patiently awaiting resto)

Sometimes it takes a whole tank of gas before you can think straight.

Hmm I was wondering if it was just not seated properly I noticed it looked different in both pics when I looked again. So what makes it a Venturer tank?? Dude said he bought it off his buddy who ran it in summer of 12 and took it apart to do some work, hasn't ran since. Bit of a gamble but might be worth it he said was hoping for 600 but would probably take less. I'm gonna go check it out if it's clean I'll probably scoop it up!

              Venturer Tank

The Venturer tank (1981 Only) is a one gallon larger capacity tank than the Standard tank.

Haha that's what I was thinking. I Really do like the tank on that one. I think I will offer him 400 and see if he bites. I would probably pay 500 for it though depending on what I see when I get there. This seems like a much more logical choice of bike for what I'm preparing to do to it lol Thanks for the extra info, Phil and Mike

Just looked at this bike, pretty clean! The odo read 4100miles but I find that difficult to believe. Should ask him for the vin to make sure everything adds up. Tank had some bondo and some rust and the lock was frozen so I couldnt see inside.. But the frame was all mint and everything else looked really clean, so maybe the 4k miles is accurate? He told me it has a few wiring issues and may need some controls replaced.. One thing I thought was weird was the plastic housing around the turn signals indicators above the gauges looked kind of melted, common problem? I can't imagine why those bulbs would get hot enough to melt the plastic tho...

If it has a clear title, no more than $500. Maybe start at $350. There should not be any melting of that housing from the bulbs. I suppose someone could have put the wrong bulbs in there. Seems it would kill the battery or blow a fuse prior to melting. Either way, those "consoles" are plentiful online used. I would assume the worst for the tank. May be beyond repair. It is worth a try to get that tank restored if it is a Venturer tank - even if you resold it.
