CMIIW, but it looks like the engine and a few other bits have been repainted ...
No highlights anywhere on engine, and the left side swingarm cap that's supposed to be "gold chrome" is black.
Exactly what I was thinking, its not quite as nice as first impressions. Theres a few more painted over parts, the indicators look like chrome ones painted black, as do the headlight "ears", the h'bars don't look OE either.

I have not had the pleasure of a 1980 MNS but I would be very wary of this one. Colors and trim do not seem to be true to me as others have noticed.
If the observations are true ....how many other parts are non stock? If it was close to me I would definetly go look at it, but with a very careful eye.

For the current price it would be a steal no matter what parts are non-stock. Really, for the most part, the only difference is paint on a lot of the parts between an SG and an LG anyway. I'm not certain if the LG had the gold circles on the engine covers or not. I know the black circles were only on the SH and not the SG.
Anyway, who knows what the reserve will end up being. The way he describes it he thinks he has an original first run all original show room condition Aston Martin, so it is probably pretty high.

The low mileage should help the selling price, but considering the few miles on it I am surprised how the red is faded from the speedo and tach. With most MNS up for sale the things that make them different, black chrome and gold trim are usually in bad shape and unfortunately this bike is a good example of that. I can only imagine the amount of work and the expense involved to try and restore it to close to original condition.
My own observations tell me prices on old bikes vary a good bit by region. Old bikes appear to bring a lot more money in the Pacific Northwest than they do here in the South. (South is a place. North, east, and west are directions.) I continue to be surprised at the prices old bikes bring on the other side of the country. Looking at the eBay bike, I wouldn't expect it to get a whole lot more than the current bid if it were in Atlanta. Thoughts?

I have a LG and that bike is not 100% original. I would think top end would be $2000 to $2500 if the serial numbers match engine and frame. I am always leary when I see low miles on these listings. The engine definitely has been repainted.

Sitting on $1,000 with 3 days left. Price looks to be a little low at this point in the auction. We shall see in 3 days 16 hours. Might be a good idea for the owner to disclose some of the cosmetic things he has done to it - such as painting?
It is a higher price than I would have paid without seeing it in person. The statement “this bike is in very good condition, their are few blemish's that go beyond regular wear for its age” that the owner made, is reflective of his knowledge of these bikes.
I may have paid that amount or even more if it was offered here and time was not an issue. Then one could have posted questions, pic's etc back and forth, in order to better evaluate what one was getting for his bucks.
Good for him though (and us) that he got that much. Every XS1100 I see for sale is one I hope goes for 20,000 bucks just so mine are worth more.

There seems to be a broad price range on the MNS. Their top price is seemingly higher than other models in similar condition. I suppose they are more rare? This particular one should/could have brought more with a better description even on EBay. The buyer here may have gotten a decent deal.

that is a decent deal for the buyer...but I agree that it should have sold for more...especially in that part of the country... if I were selling I too would have held out for more...
