  • Selling my 1978 XS1100

Selling my 1978 XS1100 with 38000 miles on it. It is located in Ann Arbor, Michigan; willing to drive an hour in any direction to meet up to sell it.

    Pros:
-Brand new front tire (a week ago)
-Brand new Dynatek ignition coils with new wire and spark plug caps
    -Rebuilt cylinders with Weisco pistons
    -Rebuilt carbs, cleaned and all
    -Pod filters
    -New headlamp
-Starts up no problem all the time
    -Aftermarket exhaust

    Cons:
-First gear slips a tiny bit ~4k rpms; sometimes it doesn't at all [can be fixed easily with the 1st/2nd gear fix]
-Needs new paint if you're particular about your bikes
-Front turn signals are a little bit beat up

The core of this bike is fantastic other than the little transmission blues. You can pick up a new counter shaft with all the gears on it and get it back to 100% in a weekend. I'm getting a little bored with it and I want to pick up another bike so I'll entertain almost any offer.

I'm asking $1200 obo. I have ~$400 in parts it since I bought it so I'm taking a pretty substantial loss. Shoot me an offer and I'm sure we can make a deal.

78 E - 2to1 exhaust, dynatek coils, special headlight [SOLD!]
79 F - gas tank refurb, headgasket change, straight pipes, late model carbs, virago lowering shocks, special headlight and gauges, TC fuse block, GSXR-1100 carbs (WIP)

Wow, sad to see you're letting her go due to boredom. Not sure how, but maybe something like a $20k Ducati will help you out.

I like project bikes and it's just time for a new project, maybe. Figured I'd put it up for sale to see if there were any takers, if not I'm just going to keep dropping more time and $$ into it to fully restore it. It'd just be nice to find a series of bike that is a little easier/cheaper to find parts for. But like I said, I love the bike but I'd like a change of scenery too.

To be honest, I have yet to find s series of bikes that has more interchangeability than the XS line. I guess the Suzuki GS line could come behind that, but those are huge electrical gremlin bikes.

I guess I might be chasing a white whale then...

We'll see what happens, buying a new transmission next weekend and giving her a brand new paint job and that'll probably make me take her down for sale.

Hell yeah, that's the spirit! I'm amazed at how many XS11's there are in the area. I have a lot of bikes, and this is my new favorite. Get rid of those bukhorn bars, get a better seat, and u'll love that bike.

Do you have a recommendation for new handle bars? I sort of like the relaxed feel of these ones but they are ugly as all getup.

Most comfortable would be Euro bars, slighly less comfortable but more sporty are Streetbike bars. 7/8" is what ur looking for.
