  • 79 XS1100 Special

    Hey guys,

I'm finally biting the bullet and selling my 79 XS1100 Special. She's been a loyal steed for the past 4.5 years but I think it's time I move up to a newer bike, as I don't have a garage and can't give her the love and attention she deserves. Here's the pro's and con's (all maintenance I just let pile up) with a few pictures of the bike as well, some with the hard luggage and some without. The bike runs like a champion and has no performance issues with the tank of an engine.

    The Pro's:

    - 15 inch mat black handle bars (They are shoulder level and make for a very comfortable ride).

    - Steel braided front break lines

    - 4 in 1 exhaust

    - Hard luggage w/ rear turn signal bar included

    - Upgraded fuse box to modern plastic fuses

    - K & N filter

    - Just renewed registration in last month (May)

    The Con's:

    - Needs new Battery (let it sit over winter and forgot to disconnect)

    - Could use an oil change soon

    - Rear turn signal needs wires extended to reach properly

    - Hole in seam of stitching on the seat

    - Rear break pads need replacement as they're starting to squeak.

    - Hard luggage missing lid on one side

You can see the comfortable bar height along with the hard luggage missing a lid but never stopped me from using it without issue.

Fresh after a bath and without the hard luggage and had yet to upgrade to the steel brake lines.

    Asking $1,000 obo.

It will be ready to ride as long as you bring a battery or jump it. I can get some more pictures up this weekend if there's demand for it.

The SG I just sold had those same bars on it. At first I hated them, felt very odd. But after 20-30 miles of riding with them I got comfortable with them and they felt good. Not sure if it was the bars or not, but I did like the way the bike handled.

Looks good except for those handlebars IMO. I could not ride like that. I don't think they match the bike at all. That's just my opinion. Good luck with sell.

I've had bikes with plenty of normal riding position bars and even clubman bars on my cafe racer, and with running the gamut of riding positions, I can say with certainty that these are the most comfortable bars I've had. They also keep me sitting a bit more upright, without effort, which really helps my back on the longer rides.

As far as the look, with the large seat, I really wanted to give a throw back to the the types of custom bikes that inspired the look of the bike. So I went with the bars to compliment them.

If they help the back, that would be good. My back isn't good anyway.

              Hey guys,

Any interested parties at $900.00? I'll be replacing the battery as well.

I would take it if you lived closer and I had that cash on hand. Alas I really doubt you will do payments to me.

Yeah sorry, in fact, after the break up with my girlfriend this last week, looks like I will be holding on to her. I could use a few rides now

You made the right choice, grasshopper. Ultimatums are down the tubes this year. And your bike won't give you any.

Oh I disagree, my bike has given me ultimatums this year. She says ride me or else.
If I let her sit for more than 2 days, she gets mad at me and makes one of the floats stick and then I've got a mess on my hands. LOL

She's now back in the shop, having her all gussied up for a ride I'm planning for 14th - 22nd of September, from San Luis Obispo to Portand. Me and another buddy on his bike, to celebrate my 30th birthday.

After 5 years, being single has been just as amazing as I remembered
