This 1981 Yamaha xs 1100 is a monster of a machine. Its is one of the most collectible early 80s models out there. The following for these bikes is endless and global. MY 1981 Yamaha xs 1100 has been turned into a chopper bobber. It has a raked front end leading to a 22inch tire and spoke rim. Brand new drag bars with brand new grips and levers. The master cylinder is brand new and brakes were professionally done and stop on a dime. It is completely street legal because it is a 1981. I do not run turn signals at all. Everything about the bike screams bad ass. I get looks and compliments every day I am on it. This bike does need a little work. The bike runs and starts fine but sometimes needs starting fluid. The carbs could use a jetting or cleaning but there are youtube videos of how to do it if your mechanically inclined. The bike could also use a new battery but again these are all little fixes. I am looking to sell this bike because I have too many projects going at once. The price is 2000 but I am negotiable but not stupid. Text me or call me 9174074259 JOE.

If only it had signals....the way it is now I could only go straight.
Guess I have to pass for now since I like curves.
You might have better luck Joe in the For Sale forum instead of Want to Buy forum.

"Everything about the bike screams bad..."
Sorry bud, but if you do just a little reading on this site you'll find you are way over priced for a chopped up XS11.
Needing a battery and questionable carbs doesn't warrant paying that price either.
Being too busy, which is great, with other projects, tells a potential buyer that advertised bike just may have been neglected a little so you may want to rephrase your ad. HTH
Not sure where you live but where I reside turn signals, by law, is a must.
Also the raked front end and oversized wheel makes an already handful of a bike just that much more hell to ride.
And know this timeless quote by the great Forrest Gump:

1984 XV700L Virago (to be hot-modded)
1983 XJ750MK Midnight Maxim (semi-restored DD)
1977 XS650D ( patiently awaiting resto)
Sometimes it takes a whole tank of gas before you can think straight.

yes these bikes can be collectable...if they're in mint condition but if the bike has been bastardized aka chopped and bobbed as has yours all bets are off...obviously you didnt come here to join and read... just to sell...and that too makes me wary...1980 XS650G Special-Two

look guys. I didnt do anything to this bike. It needs work and i got it chopped and missing the signals. its not illegal by the way. I joined this site to try and find anyone who can help me fix the bike and learn more about it. Most people here just say ignorant comments and arent that helpful. I want to keep the bike but know nothing about xs1100. All i am looking for is help but if I cant do it right i wouldn't do it. If anyone wants to actually lend a hand and pushing me in the right direction please let me know. Have a good dayXS11 Special Chopper

Hi Joey,
While this site is a bunch of very helpful guys they are also outspoken. In general chopping and hardtailing are the least popular choices.
Having said that yours looks like a good example of the concept. If you are looking for advice on how to maintain or make it run properly go ahead and ask questions. If you want someone to come over and hang out in your garage and help fix it ....probably not going to happen in Brooklyn.
I notice: The rear brake lever looks droopy to me. While there is a fork brace of sorts I would add a TKat brace and a mudgard. There are some excelent aftermaket mudgaurds that would suit the style.

Joey,
Your first post here was a sales pitch for your bike. It is full of what the knowledgable folks here on this site know to be half-truths at best. And alot of misguided or uninformed statements. What in the world does it being an 81 model have to do with it beng street legal for instance, nothing. And perhaps in NY it is street legal to run without turn signals, but in most of the USA it is not. While some much older bikes are exempt as they did not have turn signals when made, the XS1100s all had them stock. Other than folks on this site or similar sites, I doubt you will find alot of folks who would call the XS1100 "collectable". While we find it a cool and awesome bike, you probably will not find one in Jay Leno's garage. The braking system on these bikes is not great, they will not "stop on a dime" unless you have a really big frickin dime, or you changed out most all of the braking system. Saying the bike runs and starts fine and then following that with it needs staring fluid to get it going are contradictions. Saying the bikes carbs could use some jetting, or cleaning.....this is a classic overused excuse to explain why a bike runs like crap when the owner has no clue, and often leads to major work like a bent valve or two, or in this case it probably needs a real exhaust. If it so easy from the youtube videos, why have you not done it yet?
If you need help getting or keeping it running, ask in the tech forum, give the pic and let us know what mods were done and yes you will take alot of ribbing for it being hardtailed and chopped and all. But the advice you get will be accurate and helpful. Like get some exhaust that will provide some back pressure and your engine will be MUCH happier. However, it is fairly common that folks who come in with the chopped up bikes like this do not want to hear the information, because it goes against what they want to do with the bike. so they get Peed off and rant how we are all a bunch of haters and don't want to help them.
So you came to a site where the XS1100 is a cool bike in its stock form, asked us if we wanted to buy your chopped, raked, ratted bike that needs work to be a solid runner for twice as much money as most of us ever paid for a completely stock running and ridable bike. And now your upset because we did not help you? None of your four post on the site to date have asked anything except do we want to buy what your selling. We answered your question, with maybe a little more explanation than you wanted. If you truly want help figuring out what you can do to get it running better, then by all means please ask and we will happily give you sound recommendations.Last edited by DGXSER; 02-25-2013, 07:20 PM.Life is what happens while your planning everything else!

Actually, not a bad looking chop job from the pics, looks like a few details still need to be attended to (rear brake pedal for one). A low-speed flopper for sure with that rake, with a turning radius about equal to your average motor home....Fast, Cheap, Reliable... Pick any two
