  • 78 XS1100 in DC area $1200

Hello all. Selling my 78 XS1100 due to life... She is a great bike but has a problem, no power getting from the battery to the fuse box. Unfortunately I do not have the space, time or knowledge to get her running again. She is currently registered (another 1 1/2 years), insured, with DC safety inspection (I think another 5 1/2). Here is the post from which I purchased her (showing the $1900 I paid for her): http://www.xs11.com/forum/showthread.php?t=37363. Windscreen is off but have all the parts plus original seat. Ran great until she died on a ride. Seems to be electrical, which is of course the one thing I know nothing about. Send me a message, I would love for her to go to someone in the community. Truly a lovely bike.

Hill? What hill? I didn't see any hill! Why wasn't there a sign? And where are my keys?

KWinDC, reading your first post, about losing power from the battery, have you cheked the main fuse under the left (shifter side) side cover ?
1980 XS1100G "Dolly G" Full Dresser (with a coat of many colors )
        1979 XS1100SF (stock-euro mods planned)
        1984 XV700L Virago (to be hot-modded)
        1983 XJ750MK Midnight Maxim (semi-restored DD)
        1977 XS650D ( patiently awaiting resto)

Sometimes it takes a whole tank of gas before you can think straight.

The '78-79 bikes don't have that fuse; that appeared on the '80 bikes. The 'main' fuse is in the fuse panel on the early bikes...

Oh yah, thanxs Steve forgot about that.

OK KWinDC check the fuses and if they're the glass bottle type you'll need to run a continuity test on all of them 'cause they may look good but the metal ends seem to break loose of the filament.

All the fuses are good. I got a bit happy that it may be the main fuse... I still think there is a ground somewhere between the handle bars and the fuse box (after the power goes through the key and kill switch).

                  Inbox checked.

                      Congrats

                      Hey Kevin,

Congrats on selling that beautiful bike. I was sorely tempted, but just couldn't justify it.

                        Lucky Me

I could not justify either, but that has never stopped me from buying these bikes. I am moving to VA from TX and could not pass up the chance to get a great, mostly original 78E. Bike is in a storage unit in Chantilly and I will not get a chance to find and fix the electrical problem until next month after we get into a house.
