    1982 xj1100 all original

Hello folks. Been using this site since last season when I bought this Maxim. Bought from original owner(my stepfather) in June. Put about 1000 miles on it(up to 6,344 miles now!) and it's just honestly not the bike for me. I'm 6'5" and it just doesn't fit me very well. I know I could modify the bike, but I can't bring myself do that to an almost 30 year old all original gem. When I bought it, it had been sitting in the attatched garage for a few years so I took it to the yamaha dealership to have the carbs cleaned/synched and front caliper rebuilt(it was seized), oil change, and new battery installed. Before my stepfather parked it for the last time, in 2009, he had it serviced...new battery, new plugs/wires, oil change, because he anticipated selling it. He couldn't bring himeself to sell it. Well I finally got him to sell it to me.

    So about the bike.......

As of right now it has 6.344 all original miles, and I am the second owner. Only parts that are not factory original are the crash bars, highway pegs, and backrest but he said, from what he remembers, those were yamaha parts that he installed. Exhaust, seat, EVERYTHING is original and in excellent condition. I am going to put new tires on it sometime between now and start of season so that can be factored in to the price when we negotiate depending on whether or not I have the tires on it yet. this bike runs excellent and shifts excellent. It has no problems what-so-ever. CHERRY!!

    About the deal.....

Let's trade!! I want another bike. Interesested in , well, lot's of bikes. Something newer, and larger. anything over 900cc. Cruiser possibly touring. I like v-stars, road stars, shadows, harleys(no sportsters)and most bikes like these. I have some cash to boot if neccessary. LET's TALK!! I can email many photos.

              Chris,

That's a very nice bike and I'm sure you'll sell it. It's going to take time to sell a 30 year old Japanese motorbike for that much money. Your market is very small. That's a one year only motorcycle with very little parts support. You're going to have to be patient to get what you're asking for it.

Chris, I agree with Marty, it is a fine example of an XJ and with very low miles. And you will find the right folks to buy it, for that price possibly. But you will have much more luck come spring.

To be honest, on this site, you will find a greater portion of the folks like to find them cheap to fix up themselves. In my opinion, not the market your looking for. Ebay and the like is where you will have the greatest luck in finding the people who are looking for a ready to ride machine and willing to pay to get it.

                Just my thoughts.

Indeed most folks here like getting these bikes on the cheap...except once in a while you'll find some bloke like me who paid the full entry fee buying it brand new back in the day. I have had pretty good results with both ebay and CL although on CL you gotta be more leery of some folks...Spring is a good time to sell...Personally you can ask whatever you feel its worth and ultimately someone will only pay what they feel its worth...if you and the other party are in agreement then thats all that matters. From what I've seen of your XJ...it looks to be a sweet machine GLWS

                      Hi !
I bought this one on ebay for $3383 last year. It is almost perfect,so I think $3000 is a fair price

Well remember its still wintertime so you're gonna have to be patient with this sale if you want that kind of $...and from all outward appearances it looks to be worth that.
If it makes you feel any better I paid $3600 for mine...even though that was brand new back in 1983

Chris, I'd say the bike is worth every penny of $3000 to you and the person who just has to have that particular bike. BUT, I highly doubt anyone with another Jap cruiser or a Harley will be looking to trade for the bike you have here. The market is pretty flooded with almost any bike style and model you can imagine and a lot of those owners need cash. I bought a "80" XS 1100 from a guy on Minneapolis last November in very good condition. He had the full Vetter fairing and bags, back rest etc. It did need a carb cleaning and a few other maintenance items but for another $400 I had it looking pratically like it just came out of the show room. If you hang on long enough you'll probably get the $3000 but I'd put it on Cycle Trader and Craig's List, see how it does there.
