  • :( 1982 XJ1100 Maxim for sale Chicago

Hello everyone. I am here with the news that I have decided to put my 82 Maxim up for sale. You may have seen pics of it here on the fourms in the past. This is truly a special Maxim and I have to say that I dont think that there really is many more like this one with so few miles. This bike has just over 3200 miles on it. Yes 3200 original miles. This bike runs and rides awesome and is in excellent condition. I purchased this bike when it had just over 1100 miles on it. It has been babied. It is garaged kept. I put alot of work into it after I purchased it It has newer tires (brigestone spitfires) Newer battery. I had both front and rear master cylinders rebuilt with brand new rebuild kits. I rebuilt both calipers, installed new brakes, new air filter, plugs, motor oil and gear oil. The carbs were also cleaned. The bike is really rare to find in this condition as you guys know. There are no problems with 2nd gear. Bike shifts perfectly as you would expect with a bike with such low miles. I replaced a few of the old fuses with newer blade style fuses. I have installed original engine guards. There is also brand new mirrors (not pictured) I also have a few extras that will come with the bike. Owners manual, extra set of 4 carbs, windshield, touring trunk (brand new never installed) extra oil filter, and air filter, and a few other bits and pieces. All the lights switches horn signals work as they should. Air shocks hold their air. This is really an incredible find and I know whoever owns this bike will not be dissapointed. I am choosing to sell this bike only because I recently purchased a car and have to sell the bike to help pay for the auto. Feel free to call me at 773-544-5850 email joranzaldo@msn.com or post here to ask any further questions. As of right now I am asking interested people to make reasonable offers and I will take it from there. Thanks
    Jorge

Very nice looking bike. So, your running a "sealed bid auction"?

I actually don't know what a sealed bid auction is LOL, just wanted to post it first on the forums where I knew the bike would be appreciated. I only asked that people if interested give me an offer to kinda get a feel for what fair value would be for the bike. I have an Idea in my head. I truly am unhappy that I have to list this bike but I am serious about selling the motorcycle. I don't want to place the bike on ebay. I want the bike to go to someone who would truly appreciate it.

Very sharp bike. As a person who's business is buying & selling things of value I would suggest you get some kind of price on it. Me, I want everything for a quarter Your going to get someone offer you $1000 on it and your going to say no, I want $_______ so you might as well fill in the blank right away.

I understand where your at about the price issue. Honestly part of it is the difficult decision of having to sell it in the first place and the other is trying to put a value on something as nice as it is. However after thinking about it I am going to ask 4500 obo

                  Tough time to sell

I think your mostly dealing with a tough time to sell. The good riding season in your area (and mine) is almost over and less and less people are looking for bikes right now. I looked up KBB Blue Book using Chicago as an area and the "suggested retail value" for your bike in excellent condition is $1275.00. Now having seen your bike (in pics) and seen other bikes like ours (and yours) that's not realistic for your excellent condition. I can't say what a Yamaha lover looking for a great bike like yours would pay but I did some looking at CL Chicago and there are no 1100 Maxims for sale so maybe you should get it up there with lots of nice photos and maybe you get some lookers/offers. My personal opinion only, I'd say you may have better luck at $3000 to $3500. Right now bikes are selling fairly cheap in my area and probably in all colder weather areas. Good luck with it, too bad you can't hold on to it!

I do agree with the timing of it all. But as you said there are none listed right now either. But despite the timing thats why Im trying to sell here because I know that everyone here can appreciate an XJ in this condition. Thinking more realistically I would listen to offers in the 3500 obo range. Im hoping to get this done before the season is totally over. But if I cant then Ill have no choice but to wait. Im gonna try taking some time to take some videos so you guys can see and hear the bike running.

You likely won't have much luck here with it. Pretty much everybody here has an XS or XJ already and although we love your bike most of us are not looking to add another one unless its a real steal. Personally I'm looking for another XS (for my wife) but also looking for a bargain that needs work. Going to use the knowledge from this website to make it nice on my own. Most everyone on the site is a "fixer upper" guy and yours is a low mile, turnkey bike that's ready to go. Guys here need something to bust their knuckles on I did a quick Ebay check and no 1100 Maxims are listed and have been completed recently. I would do Ebay, buy it now pricing with "best offer" option, and promote it as a fly n' drive model. Maybe someone from San Diego always wanted a mint one and you guys just need to meet! On the forum I'm on for my Suzuki I have read many stories of people hopping a bird and then driving their new bike home. Just a thought. If you want any help with this PM me, I'm happy to help.

Its understandable how everyone on the forum already has xj's or xs' and that part of the experience of owning one of these bikes is working on them. I also know this as it took time and effort on my part to get the bike up and running the way it is now. I know that its the end of the season but i do need to sell the bike. Ok guys 2500 firm and the bikes sold.

I'm an original owner of my XJ and yours tempts me. You'd think after 29 yrs I'd get tired of this design but the reality is this design is timeless and I never get tired of it. Your price is fine and offering it here first is a great gesture...still you might want to try other venues' as well. Ebay can be a hassle but everytime I've used it to sell an item...it sold... It will sell and theres still plenty of riding season left...but ofc that depends on your latitiude and longitude.

                            Take a good luck guys!

This is a sharp bike guys. Someone needs to do a fly n drive and get some quality rode time in! You probably won't see a nicer one! May want to get this on Ebay and show the country. Good Luck!

                              Hi, OPFlash...

As a Maxim owner myself, I just had to take a moment and tell ya...
That is a beautiful Maxim, and the first original one I've seen with that low mileage.

I would love to add that one to my collection, but can't at this time...
IMHO, $2500 is the right asking price.

My '79F had 2400 original miles when I bought it... same beautiful condition... babied and garage kept as well.
That's what I paid for it.

My Maxim is pretty nice, but has 45000 miles on it.
I got almost $2500 invested in it, too.

I wish you the best of luck, and hope you find a buyer who'll apreciate it the way it deserves! That one looks sweet.
'82 XJ1100J Maxim (has been sold.)

'79 F "Time Machine"... oh yeah, Baby.... (Sold back to Maximan)
