Here's my midnight special for sale. My father bought it new, I've had it for the last 15 years. Started right up today, 29,000 miles, needs front master cylinder, right hand mirror & brake light switch,to drive it away or it will have to be trailered as is. I've kept up on the fluid changes, always on a batt. tender, been garaged the last year but before that, spent most of it's life under a cover & or in a storage shed, (showing it's age). I never have the time to ride it, last year gave it a tune-up, shut it off, that was it, never rode it. I just tore into the front brakes two weeks ago ( have re-build kit & diaphram for frn. mas.cyl.) calipers were hanging up, then slowly releasing. Had alot of work done in 1999,(carbs,stator,forks ect.) It's time for it to go, $800.00

That's not an LG, that's an LH. You can tell by the circles about the Yamaha's on the alternator and ignition covers. That also means it has the linked brake system like the XJ as well. Still, at least cosmetically a nice looking bike, and I wish it was around here instead of so far away (not that I have the money for it right now).

There's not a close enough shot of the carb bowls to tell if their 80 or 81 style, but I'll bet they have the little screw drain setup rather than the big drain bolt of the earlier years.

Hey Steve, run up there and grab this one! You know you always wanted an MNS anyways.

Thanks DGXSER for attaching the photobucket link, yes that's it, took the pictures today. Replying to cywelchjr's comments, it's an LG, I have the orginal owners manual, printed Oct. 79'. "1980 XS1100LG" on the cover & the carbs do have bolts on the drains, not screws. Thanks for the replies & intrest in my bike. William

Hmm, interesting, cause those aren't LG alternator and timing covers, those are LH alternator and timing covers. The 1980 model year didn't have the circle around the word yamaha on those covers, that didn't come till 1981, so either the engine or those covers have been replaced (it is of course possible that just those covers have been replaced rather than the entire engine). Its hard to tell many times, all you can go by is the visual cues, which can sometimes mislead if parts have been changed from stock as would have to have been done in this case (my alternator cover has the circle on it because my 80G has and 81H engine, but I have the G ignition cover on the other side without the circle, at least until I find a matching ignition cover, just for aesthetics you understand)

Looks like a great bike. I'd take it but I'm also on the east coast. Don't worry it will sell. Put it on ebay. I don't think you'd have any trouble getting $1700 out of it in a week.

The wheels agree with an LG. LH wheels are swirly like the XJ. It seems more common to swap a motor or its covers than wheels.

My LG has the yellow rings around the Yamaha as well.

Sounds like a was wrong about the LG not having the rings. This is something I will have to make sure and remember for the future.

The engine is original, only aftermarket parts are seat ( put on in 1982 ) saddle bags & faring. I did lay it down in 1989, factory replacement bars & mirror. There's also a dent in the tank that doesn't show up in the photos. Mabey I'm a little hastey on the price, might try "xs11lover's" advice & go the e-bay route. Thanks for all the replies. William

Nice bike, glad it went to a good home Definitely an LG. The LH covers have the circles caved into the covers ...the LG has circular decals. If the VIN starts with 4H3 ---it is an LG
