I am putting my 1978 Yamaha XS1100E up for sale. I bought it a few years ago as I was smitten with old Japanese standards and this was a great example. The bike runs great, starts right up and is smooth as silk at highway speeds. I was in the process of restoring it and updating it to modern specs and just lost interest. I ride it almost everyday as my commuter bike. Has 22,500 miles.
THIS BIKE NEEDS NOTHING - RIDE AND ENJOY
About the bike and what I have done:
Started on front end:
Front forks disassembled, cleaned and new springs (Race Tech) and new oil put in.
Fork tubes stripped and polished
Front brakes disassembled, rebuilt kit put in - new seals, washers - and calipers polished
Braided brake lines added and run off a new Mikes XS master cylinder - greatly improved braking
New clutch cable
Stripped and painted all front end pieces - triple tree, clamps, etc.
New tapered steering stem bearings - plus new grease
Polished all chrome pieces - nuts, bolts, etc.
New grips and bar end mirrors
New lower bar - have original bars
Front fork brace - TKAT
Have brand new light switch for right front - never put it on. Current switch works just a little beat up - you can see in pic
Bike now brakes like a modern standard and handles much better.
Other nice things - previous owner worked as an uphostlry guy and redid the seat - like new and really cool. Added rear rack. Tires are Pirelli Sport Demons with about 1500 miles. The rear is still a Shinko - which has about 2000 miles. I have a new Pirelli Sport Demon for the rear. Battery is about 1 year old. Nice and rare 4-1 Kerker exhaust. Gives a nice, raspy tone.
Previous owner had it painted a GM red. Really nice job except on the tank. A few runs but from a distance it looks great.
EXTRA BONUS - If I sell this at list price I will throw in a parts bike that has a complete running motor. Parts bike has just about everyting. Pus, I have one more complete engine that does not run that will go with this also.
No leaks or issues. Everything works. Have two sets of manuals also.
Asking $1300 - you can email me at wabalden@gmail.com or call 314-363-6994 - if interested or if you have questions.
WILL NOT PART OUT BIKE - SORRY, NO TIME OR INTEREST.
