Thinking of selling my 81' XS but not sure what she's worth. It has 7785 original miles on it. Decent paint. Hasn't been tagged since 06'. Just rebuilt the carbs along with petcock gaskets and the octopus diaphram. All the covers and extra factory gadgets are still there. Have several misc. NIB bolts and hardware. Needs oil changed (have filter), TCI box, front caliper rebuilt(have kit) & new timing chain adjuster. Head light has some scrapes on it and the turn signal/headlight brackets are tweeked a little.(not bad, easy fix). Was running until the tci crapped out on me last week. Really clean bike for its age. So what do you guys think its worth? best case ......worst case

Do you have a title? It's worth very little if it isn't running. I expect the value is double or more if a prospective buyer can get on it and ride. Bikes not running are often free. I personally haven't paid more than $30 for one. I have four complete bikes in my garage that I got for free, and another that I paid $30.Marty (in Mississippi)

That is some very low miles, and I would be interested in pics of it. Honestly, it all depends who is looking and tiem of year your selling. Price is most likely going to be around $200 but mighg make it up to $500 depending. JMHO. If your looking to move it quick, price will drop.Life is what happens while your planning everything else!

Got pictures? Are you planning to fix everything, clean the brakes, grease all the bearings, or just get it running?Life is what happens while your planning everything else!

Depending on how much time I have here in the next month will determine what I fix. Biggest deal is to get it running. Will try to post pics.Originally posted by DGXSER View PostGot pictures? Are you planning to fix everything, clean the brakes, grease all the bearings, or just get it running?

Nice-looking bike IYAM. I'd think that if it was running, with title, it could easilly get $500+ for the next couple of months. Once September hits, prices will drop though. I paid $500 for mine in a non-running status, and I considered that a good deal. Cosmetics on yours are nice, so you should get a decent price.1980 XS850SG - Sold

Around here, if that bike were assembled and running well, you could easily get $1500+ for it. Running but with remaining 'issues', probably around $1K. Not running/apart, I'd say $500 would be the upper limit, more likely 3-400...Fast, Cheap, Reliable... Pick any two
