  • 79 XS1100 for sale

This is my 1979 XS1100 for sale. It's sat for 2 years until this year and I just don't have the time to give her the attention she needs. I would really like to see her go to someone who is a true fan of the bike.

Right now she runs pretty ok from idle to 4500rpm. After that it starts to get choppy, so a good carb cleaning is in order.

It's also starting to show signs of the 2nd gear problem, that if your familiar with XS1100's you know all about.

Other than that its fine. I just rode it today about 90 miles with no problems other then the above mentioned.

Here is a list of parts I have in it.

    - Metzler ME880 tires front and rear
    - Replaced front and rear wheel bearings and seals
    - Installed EBC pro-lite full floater rotors
    - replaced front master cylinder
    - Spiegler stainless steel brake lines with chrome fittings
    - Rebuilt calipers and installed new bleeders
    - Polished lower fork tubes
    - Installed progressive front springs and changed fork oil
    - Installed T-kat fork brace and had it chrome plated
    - Chrome plated front and rear wheels
    - Chrome plated triple tree
    - Chrome plated Speedo/Tack bracket
    - Chrome plated clutch and brake levers
    - Chrome plated valve cover
    - Chrome plated all four engine side covers
    - Chrome plated rear brake lever
    - Chrome plated side stand and center stand
    - Chrome plated exhaust hanger brackets
    - Replaced gear shifter lever
    - Replaced all four blinkers and bushings
    - Superbike bars
    - Installed Mikexs 650 chrome plated control switch housings
    - Kuryakyn mirrors
    - Kuryakyn ISO grips
    - Replaced gas cap with one from Mikesxs and swapped guts so I could use my old key
    - Tank and side covers painted with Burnt Metallic Orange with pearl ghost flames
    - Custom "Yamaha" and "XS Eleven Special" emblems
    - MAC 4-into-1 exhaust system
    - Replace rubber foot rests
    - Replaced OEM fuse box
    - Installed XS 750 kick starter and had it chrome plated
    - Replaced King and Queen seat with OEM seat
    - Replace rear suspension with Progressive 412 Standard Series Shocks

    I'm asking $3500obo.

I remember this bike from 2 yrs ago when i saw it here for the 1st time. This is a helluva deal for the asking price....I wish i could snatch this up but timing is not right. Its a beautiful bike and you've done alot to get it to this state. If that were mine I'd keep it... ride it and show it off

I guess these bikes, even in pristine shape, just are not worth anything.

I guess I'll keep it and megasquirt it to get rid of those wretched carbs!!!

If it ran perfect and didn't have the 2nd gear problem it MIGHT be worth that price if you found the right buyer, but pretty much no, they are worth about 2/3 of your asking price. The only exception would be a low mileage bike that is all original with no mechanical problems, the minute there are any problems, the price goes WAY down, the 2nd gear problem cuts the price down by a LOT, and the carbs needing to be done (and the symptoms don't sound like carbs to me, that's not at any of the carb cutoff points, sounds more like maybe pickup coil problems), although it COULD be carbs even so, but problems with the mains usually kick in at 3500 (but I could be wrong, have been before, and I'm sure I will be again).

Unfortunately, they are not TYPICALLY worth what you are asking for the bike. Obviously you put alot of time and money into making the bike look really really nice. And it does show. But as Cy mentioned, the 2nd gear issue tends to make folks quake in their boots, especially those who do not liek to spend hours getting their hands greasy and fixing stuff. The carb issue sounds like your probably running lean on the mains, like Cy stated, the mains start to kick in about 3k or so and by 5k you are running almost exclusively on the mains.

Reality is that a $3500 bike is going to appeal to a market of folks who want a bike to either look at and enjoy for a museum type of thing, or want a turn key and ride for miles and miles machine. The non-stock setups will negate the typical fist type, and the issues needing attention will drive off the other type.

So your left with a market of folks who want to fix things, but those types are also typically penny pinching tight azzes, who want to spend more time than money. All of this is just my opinion of course.

And the carbs are not that big of a pain once you get them set up properly. But getting them there can be quite the PITA sometimes.

Yeah I hear you guys. It's depressing to see that I have a lot of money tied up in it but will never get, even a small fraction, back out. It also started peeing gasoline out the airbox recently. I turned off the petcocks and let the bowls drain for week or so. Today I fired her up and it ran near perfect for about a mile, then it started stumbling again, which tells me I have a sinking float.

So because of this, I've just decided to make some time for it, and do a complete renovation, again, but even more over the top this time.

Ive always wanted to microsquirt something, and getting rid of the carbs wont make me feel bad....at all. I have a pretty good background in modern EFI's, so this will be right up my alley. I really think it will bring this old girl back to life, and will just make it a smoother running engine all around. I also have a friend that owns a business that turbo's hayabusa engines for sand rails, so maybe once the EFI is up and running, some arrangements can be made

I was looking at the bike and I came up with some ideas for fit and finish on the engine and maybe a new, yet still classy, look for her. I will post a thread once I get going.
