It does look a bit like overkill doesn't it? I thought maybe it was just set up there in the picture but then I realized it was in all of them.

Maybe it is an advanced noise cancelation system?

Makes it interesting to get gas in the tank!!

On the subject of the tank, does that tank look as big as the Venturer tank? Seems like it is normal Standard size to me.

          looks standard to me

doesnt look tall enough for venturer.

          gassing up could be challenging.

classic review, but doubt i'd include "awkward riding position" in my ad.

              venturer

Nate - I think you are right - I don't think they outlined any other tanks like that -

I guess the radio flips up to get to the filler?

Weird ad but bike looks totally worth the $ if it runs well.

81 standard IS the venturer, didn't come any other way in 81, and everthing else looks like an 81H. It's a little harder to tell with an H because the fairing is mounted on rubber isolators that raise it about the same as the tank height and the bars are higher the same amount as well, so the fairing the bars would make the tank look normal, but the tank does look higher in relation to the seat. Looks a lot like the one I saw locally recently (which was a repaint so the color was different but the tank was the right one). So yes, that does look like an 81H and the guy doesn't know what he has, which is probably THE most rare model of XS1100 there is (I don't know XJ1100 cause they are of course XJ's not XS's ).

                    Venture

I am about a 100% sure that is the venture, at least the tank looks like it, the venture side emblem is just a litle deferent than the standard, the standard emblem in front is more curved than that one is, if you look at it you can see where the line comes staight down on that one just like the venture and the standard is more of a curved.
When i say emblem i mean the knee side panel whats ya my calit
