Nice bike, but what is up with these people who put "reserve" prices on their auctions? Studies show that these people just shoot themselves in the foot by hiding their true required minimum price. Why not just start the bidding on the minnimum you will accept?
Their dumb....that's also why he is going to hack up a nearly perfect bike!

I didn't see where he was parting it out. He just said he was going to "cafe" it. I think that's acceptable as long as the bike is still on the road, no?

Ok, I gotta say it is laughable that the guy responds to how many miles it has as 68k "highway" miles. Its a 30 yo bike for crying out loud, really....Highway miles?!
Sorry, but I get sick and tired of the idiot crap people throw out there in these ebay and craigslist ads!

The issue is that many that "cafe" a bike don't really know how to do it and just hack up the frame and ruin the bike and then nobody wants it when they get tired of it (and they pretty much all do, at least the hacks) so they part it out. I don't have a real problem with it if it's done nicely, an example of what I'm talking about is T99fords bikes. He's modified them both, and I think he done some serious cutting, but they look almost like something that might have some out of a factory or a good custom shop.

I agree with that Cy! There is another guy on here right now that said he was cafeing a 79 hacked the frame, and then got tired of it. It's what happens and bikes die. If you know what your doing, go for it. Most people unfortunately, including myself, wouldn't know how to do it right and well.

I wasn't aware that people were actually cutting the frame to cafe the bikes. I thought they were only doing that when they made hardtail choppers.

Yep, many of them do. They cut off the part of the frame that extends beyond the rear shock mounts in many cases. Some of them even relocate the shock mounts further forward which lets them shorten the frame even more and lowers the bike with the same shocks. Part of the problem is the hack cafe guys don't really know what their doing, and really are bobbing the bike when they say they are cafe'ing the bike. If you want to cut something up, find an old abused machine and build it back up the way you want, just don't trash an almost pristine copy. Paint and farkles to make it your own, go for it, all of that can be undone, even shaving the tank badges (removing them and filling in the mounting area) can be undone, even if done with solder rather than bondo or fiberglass.
