  • 81 xs1100 standard - trade for a cruiser

Hey guys, picked this bike up a few months ago, went through it top to bottom and its solid, I stole the venture tank off it so it has a special tank now, sorry. Anyways, looking to trade it for a cruiser type bike, got it for SWMBO and she doesn't like it, its too tall, and she prefers the v-twin look. Anyways, if you've got a Vulcan, victory, Harley, shadow, madura, magna, virago or star that you'd like to trade let me know, needs to be at least 750cc's. I'm not afraid to do some mechanical work. This would be an even up trade, your title for mine, or your title + cash for mine (depending on the condition of your bike), I don't have any extra money to put in...

    Known isues:
    - it still has the stock fuse box, it works but its the stock fuse box...
    - the oil filter drain bolt is rounded off, I was able to get it off and back on with some vice grips
    - The oil drain plug is not stock - looks like it was striped and replaced with one of those universal self tapping ones from the auto parts store.
    - the tires are old, but look excellent, no cracking or anything.

Other then the above it runs and rides great, I rebuilt the carbs, fixed a couple electrical issues and changed all the fluids. I also cleaned most of the electrical connections. Adjusted the timing chain, replaced the plugs and end caps, its ready to ride.

    Virago 920

Hey Pscyoreefer, I have a 82 920 virago, runs looks ok, needs carb adustment. I went through the bike but it backfires sometimes. These carbs are not like the xs1100's. Anyway if interested let me know and I can send you a few pics. New tires, electronic dash, paint,,,,everything decent but the carb adjust. Bike is just sitting and needs a rider, as I already have 3 xs1100, 1 xj750, 1xs750, three dirt bikes, quad, 1 xs400, and misc parts bikes. A good rally ehh? Regards, Mike in S.Diego

Excellent rally! I know I had a blast, and I'll be back next year for sure. Really interested in your virago, the electronic dash still works? from what I hear those things are about as reliable as the stock xs fuse boxes...I understand about the carbs, my dad has a 700 virago and the carbs on that thing are a real PITA to R&R, he's still fighting to get his running right.

I sent you pm with my e-mail address for pictures.....

I'm hoping this bike goes to someone "in the family", if it doesn't I'm swapping the stock exhaust system onto my special before it goes.

What do you need for it outright?

I only have Great Ranger, an 80 Special, to trade and I dont think thats different enough to satisfy SWMBO!

If I can convince my SWMBO of the need to drive from San Antonio to Nevada I may be able to make a deal.

I like the Special, but want a Venturer setup and would rather start from a Standard than try and cannibalize it.
