        82 xs1100?

        Hi Dan,

Welcome to the site. If your bike's an 82, it should be an XJ1100, the XS1100 was only made from 78 to 81.

          Thanks Larry,
I ran the vin through the Yamaha vin decoder. It come up as a 1982 XS 1100. But as you said it should be a XJ, any ideas?

LOL... H. Ford is short for Henry Ford. That's the guy who said the quote in my signature.

As for the model of the bike, compare your VIN to this list. If it truly is an '82, it's an XJ. If it's older than that, it's an XS. Let us know what you come up with. Better yet, put it in your signature, so we can better help you diagnose problems. It often makes a big difference what year your bike is when answering questions, and that way, the answer is always there.

If it's an XJ, it will have the YICS system and there will be YICS on the engine side covers. The XS didn't have the YICS system.
