  • 1980 XS1100G basket case

I'm throwing in the towel, at least for now, at least with this bike.
I've bitten off more than I should have...way too much for my first project bike. I've got too much else going on, mostly in the form of my 1 and 6 year olds, to get this finished. I have 0 desire and 0 motivation to continue and just want my garage back at this point.

I debated whether this should go into "bikes for sale" or "parts", but decided on bikes, since I'd like to sell her as a whole. I'm not really interested in parting out. If someone just wants the frame, engine, and title, great, the rest will be scrapped, but I think there are enough other parts to justify picking up all of it.

What I have is a 1980 XS1100G (standard), showing approx 28k on the odo, with WA title, vetter fairing, and all parts. I bought the bike complete, but non-running, and proceeded to tear it down and start the rebuild process. I managed to get as far as cleaning and painting the frame and engine. The engine is currently in the frame, the rest is scattered about in a somewhat orderly fashion.

Along with the parts that were on the bike, I've already ordered a bunch other stuff new to put on the bike. Too much to list all, but include all the cables including steel brake lines, steering head bearings, the rubber boots for the carbs, new final drive boot, new front springs, used rear shocks, stainless engine bolts, additional used carbs, much better condition used stock exhaust, etc. Quite a bit, actually.

How much? I'd like to recoup my costs, but considering how much new I've bought, I doubt that'll happen.

    $400 obo?
    Buyer picks up.
I'm in the Seattle area (in Renton).

Here are a few pictures of what I started with, up to where I am right now:

If you want to see very detailed pictures of the tear down and such, have a look here.

I'll be happy to answer any questions you may have as best as I can.

    Thanks!

I went to my local auto parts store and found some of this:
        VHT Engine Enamel.

Looks great, but nasty stuff when applying. Definitely make sure you leave the garage open or use a really good mask.

          I got it!!!

I picked the bike up last Tuesday and I must give a big thanks to parrot820 for his generosity.

I will be finishing it up this fall/winter, so it should be ready for next summer. I have another project I need to get finished, before I can get started on this one.

Of course, I will be taking plenty of photos to post.
