    1980 Midnight Special 16400 miles for sale

    Hi guys
    I am selling my 1980 Midnight special, new tires 1800 miles ago, just got back from a 1500 mile ride, Outer Banks Bike week. I had nothing but positive comments, and surprise that it was a 1980. Bike ran like a Champion. I love this bike but have decided that I really need a touring bike. I just changed the oil before my last ride, I have the lowers for the Vetter faring that was made for this bike , it has the Midnight Special logo, with a Yamaha shop and Clymer's manual, along with some other parts. I really hate to sell it but, can only ride one a a time, and have no space for 2 bikes. I would like someone from XS11 forum to get this bike, a real antique at 30 years old. If someone had the space, there is no telling how much it may be worth in the future I am asking $2750.00 for the bike. It will be listed on Craigslist later today. Bike is located in Northern Virginia. I have more pictures available.

      You really need to get a touring bike?????? These bikes are one of the best for touring. Put the rear bags, and trunk on it and ride.

          No kidding!! Just add bags and a trunk, and keep your nice-looking MNS! That bike is too nice to sell! The fairing alone is a classic, and that headlight ring on the fairing is almost impossible to find too!

          Just Vetterize it, and you'll love touring on that bike!

            It's all about the space, and being able to ride 2 up. Believe me I have considered keeping. It's not a fire sale, I may keep it. The old bike is not going down in value, and still runs like a scalded dog. The Harley boys were pretty bummed out

                  Well, only because his reasons don't make any sense.

                  That bike will out tour most tour bikes, 2 up and with as much or more carrying space.

                  It will also blow their doors off, and do it with better fuel economy, and a lot more class.

                  The XS is a lot easier to work on, far less complicated, and has the added bonus of being an antique!

                  My guess is he's being suckered into the small-penis world of hogs.

                    Not At All

                    My reasons are sincere, I have purchased a 1994 Kawasaki Voyager Xll, with 10,000 miles on it. I have no desire for a Harley, Overpriced and underpowered. I like the setup on my MNS now, adding bags and a trunk would, to me, take away from the bike's character. Do some research on the Voyager, and I think you'll see that it is a kick ass touring rig.

                    Inline 4, auto adjusting valves, 5.5 gallon tank, radio, 4 speakers, cb,cruise control,air suspension, 45 MPG

                    97 HP

                    and set up for long rides, with integrated bags and a trunk

                    Like I said, no space and I cannot ride 2 bikes, not enough time

                      Definately. There is one for sale at our local bike shop, they want $5000 for it. It's a '93, I think.

                      Glad to here you weren't sucked onto the dark side!

                      However, if I were you I would hold onto the MNS for a bit. You will likely find that, although the Kawy is a great long distance bike, it is not nearly as fun for just hopping around town, or going for milk.

                      I have freinds who bought Ultra Classics and they find them cumbersome for just buzzing around town.

                      Since the MNS is paid for, you may find it useful to have around just for fun. Although insurance probably makes it too expensive to keep two.
