1980 XS1100SG (Special) - $1,400.00 (New Hampshire)
miles: 25,844
- a body shop repainted the tank and side covers two years ago, Candy Red
- New “Yamaha” and “Eleven Special” emblems from that company in Australia that someone posted info about on this board.
- New fuel cap, rebuilt petcocks
- New “tins” for speedometer and tachometer
- New tires in 2009, barely used since putting them on (Dunlop front and rear)
- Jardine 4 into 1 exhaust, new in 2008, has some rust on the welds and the pipes turned blue at top
- Seat reupholstered in 2008 by a professional
- New rear shocks (2008)
- New backrest, bought on Ebay and arrived still in the wrapper.
- New grips, sponge with chrome ends
- New start button/on/off switch combo (entire section that mounts above throttle)
- New fuse board, replaced old glass fuse setup with the new plug in type.
- Mirrors replaced with new ones in ’08.
- Wind Deflector (chest) windshield
- New battery (2008)
I’m only considering selling this bike because I bought a 2009 Yamaha Raider last summer and this bike just doesn’t get enough use. I had hoped to keep it just to let my two brothers and/or my two sons use it.
$1,400 is as low as I’ll go after all the time and money I’ve put into it. I’d rather keep it and use it from time to time rather than sell it for less.
In case any of you sharp-eyed XSers caught the 1980 Special with the side eblems reading “Eleven Special”, that’s because when I first started rebuilding this bike, I was also rebuilding an ’81 1100 Special. I had the body shop paint the ‘80’s tank/covers maroon and the ’81 red. I liked the red so much that I put the tank and covers on the ’80 which was much closer to being ready to ride. As you may know, the eblems are different so to match the holes, I had to put the ’81 emblems on the correct side covers, now on the ’80.
