If it is a '78 model, then it must be a 750, not 1100

        Why would you say that?

However, as Madmax-im has mentioned that's no E. It's sad to see someone who cares so little about their bike. First, he doesn't even know what model he has, then he'd rather junk it than see it find a good home.

There were no specials made in '78, that's why.
I kind of figured he at least knew what year the thing was.
The pictures are so bad and small that I couldn't tell what the
side-covers said. However, I know what an E looks like, and that aint it!!

Yes, I agree it is an 1100, the triples exhaust all come out within the frame, this one has the outboard exhaust header coming off outside the frame. Since they did not make a special in 78 and looking at the back of the seat it does not have the seat rail of the 80-81 models it should be a 79.

I looked at one that was supposed to be a 79 special last weekend, had a 4RO serial number.

It could be a misregistered 79 XS1100 or one built at the end of the model year using a left over frame from 78, I know someone with one of those. The easiest was to spot a XS750 is the XS750 has the cam on one end of the motor and the XS1100 has it in the middle.
