  • '81 Yamaha XJ1100 Midnight Special

Im considering selling my bike. I love riding it and it runs great. The exhaust broke and it was rusting so I took off the mufflers and the center stand. I kept both still so if anyone can weld and thinks its worth it, they can take it into consideration. It was owned in NY until an older couple bought it for a project that was beyond their scope. Ive since brought it back to life. Ive replaced all the fluids including the brake fluid and mid and read diffs. The carbs all work now after #4 air/fuel mix needle had to be drilled and replaced. If I were to keep the bike, I would like to replace the rear shocks and the exhaust system, and finish painting the gas tank. Other than that, Im very happy with the bike. Lots of power and super comfortable. Right now its going on a year and a half since my last real job and could use the extra cash to fund some needed training to help get back on the job market. After looking at the pics, what do you all think I could get for it? I live in south New Jersey.

Ill have to get the url's of the pics to put up. brb

Wipa - This is NOT an XJ, but an XS1100LH. I paid $500 for a non-running (just needed a carb cleaning, really) version of the same bike, but cosmetically, mine looks a lot better than yours. The Midnight Specials are basically the same as the other Specials, except for a buch of cosmetic details. If those details are damaged or lost, the value will drop considerably. The gold chrome on yours has been painted over (along with the float bowls??) and there is a considerable amount of rust. The seat cover is not an OEM match, as it doesn't seem to have the double lines of stitching across the seat.

Knowing what I know about these bikes now, I wouldn't pay more than $300-$400 for that bike, but you may get lucky and find someone willing to pay as much as $1000 for it.
      1980 XS850SG - Sold
      1981 XS1100LH Midnight Special (Sold) - purchased 9/29/08
Fully Vetterized and Dynojet Kit added, Heated Grips, Truck-Lite LED headlight, Accel Coils, Irridium plugs, TKAT Fork Brace, XS850LH Final Drive & Black SS Brake lines from Chacal.
Here's my web page devoted to my bike! XS/XJ User's Manuals there, and the XJ1100 Service Manual and both XS1100 Service manuals (free download!).

Whether you think you can, or you think you cannot - You're right.

        The Guru is Wise

Yeah, I kinda get the xj and xs mixed up there. I shouldve looked at my own signature. And yes you are correct about everything you said i.e. seat cover, trim, rust, etc. (the force is strong with this one)

        Thanks for your input.

I would be interested in this, depending on what you're looking to get for it.

I'm in Central Jersey if you want to get together.
