Well I paid $600 for it and in many ways its in better shape now. I guess $500? If that's too high I will hear offers. Like I said the most important thing to me is that I can find some other old beater I can resurrect for the money I get.

Oh and it doesn't have to be immediately but the faster it happens the faster I can possibly get some more riding in before the NW's short summer ends.

You could actually ride it home and it would be fine. You probably wouldn't want to though. I never took it farther than down 101 to Shelton which is about a two and a half hour drive. It has just been an around town deal for me.

I'm having trouble convincing my wife I need another XS11. Because I want doesn't seem to be good enough. I'll let you know in a couple more days.

Well this may not help you with your wife any, but some guy from craigslist, (I did advertise it there but you guys here still have first dibs) just offered me a free working spare xj1100 engine. I am not sure where exactly he lives, but for an XS/XS1100 enthusiast, this could be a really worthwhile trip!

That would be the way to go. You would have to swap would be the ignition from the old engine to the XJ but it the new engine has a good alternator, you gain 6 amps.

Let us know and maybe we can organize a couple guys to help you with the swap.

Well I meant if you wanted it I would hook you up so that you could get both the bike and the spare engine. I love the XS1100, but it is a bigger bike than I normally prefer and the gas mileage is awful. I am of very limited means. This is not to say I wouldn't consider it, but I am still open to selling the bike. I just don't want to see a free engine go to waste.

I'm a former Yamaha mechanic and if I can get this past my wife, I would fix the gearbox. Doing and R&R on an engine is a pain in the ass and when the fix can be done in frame like this, it's really the way to go. On the other hand, I wouldn't turn down a free engine.

I have a KZ650 in my shed but I think it needs more work than you want to do. I'll check it over and get back to you. If you find another one, you could use this one as a parts bike. The KZ650 is a nice handling mid sized bike.

What does it need? I've done clutches and such. I have even done some top end work. I am really just not into splitting cases, or doing much engine pulling chores. I am sure I'd be capable, but I don't enjoy getting that deep in. The primary reason I don't just fix this is the no pavement or cover to do it under. You really don't want sand and pebbles , even in minute quantities to accidentally get inside your case.

Some moron broke some aluminum out of where the cam chain tensioner goes. Also much of the bits and pieces are boxed up. The bike has new tires on it and looks to have a new chain and sprockets. It's a 1979 KZ650SR model with mag wheels and dual front disks. I was going to fix it up for me to ride then I bought a couple XS11s and the rest is history.
