  • 79SF needs love (for sale)

I haven't taken pictures yet or conceived of a fair price (any thoughts or suggestions welcome).

This was the embarrassing evidence of poor focus that was hiding behind my pristine XS850 Special (basically in MN when the riding season is about 3 weeks long it's hard to sit down and work on a bike if you have another that can be ridden).

    Craigslist ad as follows:
    http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/mcy/1022411005.html

Anybody remember the Yamaha XS Elevens? They initially came with a 160mph speedo (later changed to 85 for "safety"). They were the fastest production bike made at the time and could supposedly run an 11-second quarter mile.

Right now, however, mine only goes from one side of the garage to the other in several minutes.

I have an XS Eleven Special that I rode for many years before putting on a jack and deciding to "restore" it. I had broken a side cover and some A**hole dented the tank, so I proceeded to get a new tank and plastic...then I decided I would do carbs and brakes...then I decided to wait until my garage was heated and make it a winter project.

    ...4 years later...

I now realize that in order to insulate, wire, sheetock, and heat my garage, I needed to clear things out like immobile motorcycles (immotorcycles?).

I was never worried working on this as there is something of a cult following that supports a very helpful forum ( http://www.xs11.com ). In reality, it never needed any repairs, just basic maintenance. There are reports of these going well into the 6-digit mileages.

This needs: carbs cleaned (carb kits included) brakes done (spare rotors included but have to ebay the kits) paint (tank is dent free but different color) fuel lines polishing

Includes: Bike Clear title drag bars and original bars shop manuals good chrome new insignias to put on new paint excellent seat

I also have full dress luggage for this that I procured from some guys barn. They are a mixture of lovely 1980s teal blue and snot yellow. However, some paint and effort and you have a big touring bike.
-Vetter fairing (big one with radio slot, etc.) -lower fairings -engine guards -Sissy bar/backrest -hard trunk -Hard saddlebags

I will sell the touring gear separately or make me an offer for the whole shebang.

I will also sell the Craftsman motorcyle jack which has performed one lift ever and remains under the 600# bike.

I will add pictures after I get things organized this weekend.

    Jesse,

Would you sell the trunk by itself, or did you want to sell the full package together?

      Probably as a set

I have a couple people coming to look at the whole works this weekend. If it doesn't sell I will at least have pictures and then be happy to deal with the forum folks.
      Thanks!

          Not sold - @#$@ craigslist

Well I did not sell it this weekend. After turning several people down because I had promised to show it to 2 people, the first guy had apparently not read my ad and wanted a very shiny bike (accused me of storing it in a humid area because the aluminum wasn't polished) and the second guy stood me up.

I'll get pictures up at work tomorrow.

Does anybody have an idea of a fair price? It needs carbs cleaned and brake flush and pads, and a rattle-can paint job on the side covers. I'm finding that it might be much easier to sell if I get it going myself, I just don't have the time right now and it's still too cold to enjoy working in the garage.

The mthod I used when looking for one to purchase would be to take the NADA price, and subtract cost of needed repairs to have a good condition machine.

At least a starting point. NADA does list these bikes still.

Sorry to hear the no luck with buyers.

I am still however interested in the trunk if you are selling seperatly.

I too just picked up a "79 special for $200 on craigslist so I wouldn't be a good one to ask.
