Congrats, Did you go check it out b4 you bid?
I always worry about one that low on the run time. Rubber likes to dry out and give up when it sits unused form what I have seen.Life is what happens while your planning everything else!

I did do some heavy investigating. First in the listing I noticed the color of the bike was listed as black. I knew there were no black standards in 79 so I called the guy back and had him look at the title. He confirmed it was Indigo Blue as I suspected. I also checked the original owner who turned out to be a rich oil guy and had an airplane hanger full of stuff that he would buy and never use. As far as the bike condition, it was actually better than it looked on ebay. You guy's have probably seen how good of condition my 78 is, well the 79 looks even better. When I got her back home and cleaned her up some she looks great. My wife was even impressed!
I had to remove the rear caliper to free the brakes but it looks like they are fine now that I have flushed the old fluid out. It will start but not idle. I will probably need to rekit the carbs. The tires are the original tires and have no wear but are dry rotted and will have to be replaced.I looked at the tool kit and it was obvious it was never pullled out of the container. A little carb cleaning, changing of all the fluids. polishing some aluminum and replacing the tires, she will be ready to terrorize some Harleys!! Let me know if I have missed anything to check guy's??? I'll post some new pictures of her soon!!78 XS1100E Standard

Sounds like a great find. Good luck getting it ready. There is a thread in the tips section on what to look for in a neglected eleven, sound sliek you don;t have any rust issues, but it should give you ideas of what else to look after.Life is what happens while your planning everything else!

Cleaning

After "a little carb cleaning" you will have to go back in and do a thorough cleaning, and if you try to shortcut that at all, you'll have to go back in for what will be a third attempt. You will then have achieved the fabled "triple clean". Get it running and all nicely sync'd first. Then see if you really need to change out any of the jets.78 XS1100E Standard

The rear caliper piston is the same as all three calipers used on the Standards, and that piston is availible at MikesXS. A few years ago, I was in need of some pistons for the front of a Special. They are a larger diameter than the rear and they are obsolete. Even though the Specials from other models use the same calipers, the piston are still unobtainable. I did have 10 sets made at a local machine shop. Kinda pricy, but I sold all I didn't need. Do a search here for caliper pistons, and you should find a lenghty post from me concerning this matter.
