  • WTB 79sf wire harness

Wanted to buy.... an unmolested, uncut, unspliced 79 special wire harness for my latest project. Thanks in advance for your PM.
(BTW, I have an 80sg wiring harness but I don't know if it is compatible with my SF..... so certainly willing to trade.)

As I'm preparing to return in earnest to my dueling projects that I briefly started last fall, I'm Still looking for a 79sf wire harness. If anyone has one to part with, please PM me.

I do have an 80 sg harness. Does anyone know if it will interchange with the 79 sf?

    Thanks,
    Bob

Seems that you could compare part numbers off the fische to see if they're the same. Also, you might want to take a look at the wiring diagrams, just one different wire would change the part number.

Years ago I bought a wiring harness the seller said was for an SG-It was not. The connectors did not match up, but I did take some good connectors and push out the pins to replace worn out connectors. I ended up selling the harness to a guy who just wanted the spare wire.

It appears that every model uses a different harness. And each wire diagram is different too.

          79SF 3H3-82590-50-00

          80SG 3J6-82590-50-00

So still looking to buy an exact 79sf harness as the best option.

          Thanks.

Yeah, I was trying to avoid rewiring the old one. I really don't want to get into that, but I will if I have to. Once I get the project stripped down , I'll closely compare the two harnesses that I have here and determine if I can transplant the 80 into the 79. In the meantime, the search continues.

Off the top of my head, the taillight wiring is different on the '80, as is the pilot box. The '80 and '79 both lack clutch and sidestand interlocks. They shouldn't be far off is my guess.

Thanks Marty, I have all of the electrics that go with the 80 harness, including taillight and pilot box, etc.... so I'm thinking that if I have to, I can swap them over along with it and make it work that way. It will be an interesting experiment if I am unable to buy a 79 harness, which seems to be unobtainable at this point. BUT still looking. Anyone?

BTW, does the ‘79 Special have a taillight warning on the pilot box? I know the ‘80 does not.

Yes, the 79 has an oil/brake/tailight indicator on the pilot box where the 80 has only an oil indicator, no tailight/brake.

Hi Bob, this is Xshusky (ex Shaler Husky) from a couple of miles north of you. I bought another xs11 to redo and wanted to know if you still had all those parts.
