  • '78E exhaust stays 2h7-14781-00 and 2h7-14771-00

It's been years since I've visited this site, sorry about that. I have found a brand new exhaust system for my .78E! Miraculous I know. I have everything I need except for the exhaust stays. If anyone has them (part numbers in the title) I would be extremely interested.

Thanks, saw that and another that was still NOS but a bit cheaper. The right side stay comes with the system, I hadn't realised that, so now I have everything I need on the way including all new hardware. Happy days ahead. I wonder if ceramic coating is worthwhile?

Why would you be considering a dull ceramic coating if you have a beautiful, shiny NOS system?

Does it have rust spots or some major defect?

No, the right side has never been on a bike and the left side has been fitted up to a bike at some point but looks new. I was just worried about the certain early death rust deals out to these systems and wondering if ceramic coating might delay the process.

I doubt you will be using the bike as a daily driver, would not worry about rot. That sure is purdy.

It's been my daily ride since 2006. It will always be my daily ride. I've organised a ceramic coating. The system is on the way here (Australia) from England so it will be a couple of weeks but when it's all done, I'll post more pics.

Won't the chrome hold up better than ceramic coating? I've got some headers on a car with ceramic on 409 stainless and they Still show corrosion near the welds and in some areas where the coating was thin.

Props for using the bike! I'm a fair weather rider nowadays.

That's the largest piece of unobtainium I've seen in a long time. Great score!!!

I'm not sure you can get into heaven if you put ceramic coating over that beautiful chrome.

I'd wait unitl the system was rusting to coat it.

Most of these pipes rust from the inside out not the other way around. You would be better served to coat the inside of the pipes. Having said that I have experience with the ceramic coatings. Specifically Cerakote products. I don't know what you are planning to use but most of those products require the item to be sandblasted before application. That would be a shame to do that to those pipes as good as they look now. They make a high heat resistant silver paint that can be poured into the pipes to coat the inside and battle the condensation that occurs, especially in colder conditions. Your call though as it is yours and hopefully whatever you decide I wish you the best.

I know what I have is the holy grail amongst XSives but here's my reasoning .Will I ever get another? Probably not. So I want these to outlast religion. I've seen ceramic finishes and while they're not a shiny, they're more than acceptable if it means the system will last way longer. I'm getting them done inside and out as well. By the way, those 2 and 3 header pipes I found at Partzilla turned out to me mythical so if anyone has a decent set of OEM 2 and 3 header pipes, I'd be interested.

Looks like some NOS for 3 pipe inventory at speed and sport.
