Wanted to Buy, Sell, or Trade MNS exhaust!

My latest Midnight Special (1980 XS1100LG) project is nearly completed now.

The last step which may be the impossible task is to obtain an
original black exhaust system for it.

I have a brand new Jardine spaghetti 4 into 2 on it now.
I have been told that the Jardine has been discontinued but is still in quite high demand,
and so is the MNS exhaust. Which one is more valuable? Who knows? Opinions are welcomed!

I know its a long shot, but I'd trade this Jardine for a nice original MNS system.
OR buy one outright for cash...and then sell the Jardine.

(and after the laughter dies down)... MAYBE there is still one out there somewhere?!

    Thanks,

Very interesting post, however I doubt that it's very realistic. Even though the Jardine is a well thought of and good looking exhaust system, and your's appears to be an excellent example of one it still is not original equipment. I would venture a guess that your like new Jardine system would only get you part way to a MNS system in a comparable condition. If you could find a nos midnight system for sale you might find the cost prohibitive.

Have you thought about having that one ceramic coated black?

That seems like the closest option available - however I think Ranger wants it stock because the rest of the bike is soooo close, am I right?

If I was going to try ceramic coating black, personally I would do it on a stock set of pipes and not an aftermarket set - it might cost $400 for the pipes and another $400 to get coated. $800 in pipes better be stock in my book.

The bike still looks great - that glossy black pipe was sexy though.

          You're right on John!

Yes dpotter58, I have thought about ceramic coating but I don't have the original exhaust to coat.

The bike came with this new Jardine with less than 50 miles on it.
I have thought about ceramic coating or powder coating the Jardine but
from what pictures I have seen, the ceramic coat looks kind of grayish or satin black rather than glossy black.
So rather than experiment with a perfect Jardine,
I think I'll continue my search for an original MNS exhaust.
(Even though it may be a futile search)!

My goal is to bring this MNS back to as close to original as possible.
I found original mirrors and original hand grips,
I'll remove the back rest and keep looking for an exhaust.

I'm willing to let the Jardine spaghetti go and make a reasonable investment.

I am hopefull that eventually a decent original will turn up somewhere on eboy or such,
Maybe thats a pipe dream! ...we'll see.

          Thanks

PS: I even have a complete 1980 SG parts bike that I would trade!
