  • WTB: Right side cover 1979 XS1100

    Hello,

I am new to the forum, I just bought this bike last night. As I was riding the bike home, my right side cover decided to fall off. Unfortunately, I was on the highway so I could not go back and look for it :'(

Please let me know if anyone here has one for sale. Thanks!!

Any chance you can do a fly by on the highway during daylight and hunt for it? It seems like they are not very common to find in decent shape, and if eBay is any gauge they aren't cheap.

Plus we need to know if you have a standard or a special model since the side covers are different.

I too would suggest giving a look for it as well.

It was too too far away, 80 miles away. Was not worth the ride back unfortunately.

How can I find out if its the special model or regular? when I signed up for the forum, the admin sent me a link to determine the style with the list of VIN numbers but I could not figure it out. May be its a user error on my end. Does anyone know how to determine that easily? My emblems have not removed so I can't tell from that.

            Hey, Ali -

            Check out these 2 photos:

            1979 Standard

            1979 Special

Note all the differences (tank, exhaust, forks, seat, rear wheel, grab bar, headlight, turn signals, etc.)

Unless your XS is a Frankenbike (parts from different years and models of XS11), you should be able to determine whether you have a Standard or a Special.

            Hope that helps!

            And WELCOME to the Forum!

Thanks a lot man. You could not have made it any easier, I really appreciate the warm welcome and I was easily able to determine the difference. I have the standard edition. Whew now I can easily find the side cover.

              Thanks again for the help!!

I have a maroon colored side panel with the emblems still on it if you're still looking.
