Anyone have a partzer tachometer that fits the '80 Standard, square style? Mine just quit for some reason. Let me know the cost and we'll deal.

Could be the tach Larry........but may be a bit hasty in that conclusion.

Check your charging voltage. If the alternator quits so does the tach because that's where the tach gets its reference signals from.

The needle points at about 3000rpm and moves a little up or down when you tap the cover, and moves up or down when running from vibration.

I think Moto was just saying to not jump the gun on buying a tach, when it could be something else, i.e. (corrosion, bad alternator, etc.).

I'm not wise in the way of electrons, but I'd bet a tach that doesn't get a signal reads zero or bounces all over based on misread signals. The fact that it acts like a dead clock leads me to think it has failed.

I have a couple of extra tachs at home that came off a standard. I will be back on tuesday (in the Denver area right now) I will test them and let you know if they are good.

Hey Coop, can I get in line behind Larry?
I just had the reserve lighting unit and the tach go out at the same time. Guess how much time I wasted chasing the white wires and diode scenerio?
Anyway, if you still have the tach, I live in Denver, and would be interested, if it doesn't cost to much.
You can PM me if you want, and not clutter up the forum.
                    Thanks, CZ

CZ are you looking for the standard or the special tachometer? I have a couple of extra standards. I am currently in the Denver area until Monday. My son may have an extra special one depending on the rout he takes (his speedometer fell apart on him last week)he may get a different set.

                        Howdy Ty,

It is for an 80G Standard, the square one. I had a spare to put on, but would like to have a spare.
Let me know if you have one, and how much you want for it.
I'll be in and out most of today but will check here or in the private message site when I get in.
                        Thanks, CZ
