It you lived out west, those few extra miles gained by the extra fuel are everything. On this side of the country, are you sure it's worth all the expense and time to replace the tank, just for a few fewer stops? Even the Venturer tank won't double the range. Are you ever more than five miles from gasoline in Florida?Marty (in Mississippi)

gas in FL!
Not too often, but I want to go to the Keys and elsewhere on my bike in the future... considered hiring a fabricator to put another Special tank on top of the one on my bike, making it twice as large, don't know if anyone tried that yet...Dr. Tim Walters

Dr. Walters,
My Special drinks gas like a pig. I haven't gotten around to fixing that. If I see 120 miles come up on the odometer, I'm going to be walking. Just the same, I ride it and don't walk for running out of gas. I sweat it occasionally. I don't know how stock your bike is, but a '79 Special is a lovely machine!
A Maxim tank will get you more gasoline. It may be an easier modification than what you propose. TC did it, so I expect he explained the steps on here someplace.Marty (in Mississippi)

Mine is running to phat, and I'm getting 30 mpg. I believe if my bike is right, with my weight and riding style, I should get an average north of 35 mpg. I hope to address that before spring. Your bike isn't running right, either. You would do better to address that. Start by making sure you're getting all the spark and at the right time.Marty (in Mississippi)
