  • Front Brake retainer and seat pan

    I need a front "brake caliper retainer" for a 1980 XS1100 Special.
(The part that presses into the fork leg that the brake pads fit into)

I also need a seat pan for the same bike. An old seat would be fine,
    I have a new cover.

Please let me know how much you need for the part including shipping to 54548,
and how you would like me to pay you
    Thanks much for your help.

    Jim

There is a thread on here somewhere with the dimensions of the caliper retainer clip. I will look in the garage later today to see if I have a couple laying around.

Seat pan, you need one from an 80 or an 81 Special.

      Great,
I need a pan from an 80 special. My tabs are rusted out pretty bad.
If I had some clips it would probably work, but if a pan is available, it would be best. Also missing the rubber knobs on the bottom of the seat.
      Thanks

I have a half chewed seat from an 80 special. I don't remember if it has all the rubber stop and mounting brackets. I will have to look when I get home.

You can kind of see the shape it's in from this photo

I'm thinking $20 + shipping cost pm me if interested

          Jim,

The 80 and 81 special seats are interchangeable, pan is identical. For the tabs you can use pop rivets instead. Or they do sell strips of tabs you can rivet to the pan.

              Rivets

How do you use pop rivets?
Wont they show through the seat cover?

Nope, you pull the cover and figure where you want the rivet to go. Now drill the pan in that spot. Pull the cover back over, either drill the cover or push the rivet through and into the seat pan hole. Pull the rivet up tight, it only shows from the bottom. I just did this over the winter to this seat. The seat foam is thicker than the rivet.

                  Looks great.
If I cannot get a good pan, I may give it a try.
                  Thanks
