  • Looking for headlight and signals

I am replacing the fairing on a '80 xs. I do not know much about the bike other than I love it. I have been unsuccessful in figuring out whether it is an '80g or whatever. If I had to guess I would say it is a G, but I really don't know what the differences are. It came with fairing but Ican't be sure it is all original as it has two horns like a special (but no special written on the side covers. Anyhow, I need headlight mounts and assembly and front turn signal mounts and assembly, or else I will have to put the fairing back on

Since you have the fairing off, look on the right side of the frame head, (the part that the fork swivels in) and you should see a white label. On the label is a model number. Post that number here, and you will recieve information as to what model of XS you have.
The engine will have a number stamped into a cast in pad on the right side, above and a little to the right of the oil fill hole, but if the engine has been swapped, it may not be the same as the number on the frame.
The frame number is what counts.

PICs help too. We here have seen lots of variations of bikes and years cobbled together and can usually get you in the right direction with a few pics.

Like CZ said, the VIN helps a lot with identifing exactly what your bike started out being.

There's a huge difference between the special and standard (SG vs G) headlight assemblies. (round vs square for starters)

If the sticker is gone you can look on the right side of the steering neck and the vin is stamped into the metal tube.
