I seem to have lost my starter button. Can I get just the button or do I need the entire.control?

You can buy the starter button itself. Several sources like Mikes XS, Parts-n-more, and other online sources. Some call it the horn button, they are the exact same part.

I would recommend just buying new. I took 2 otherwise junk assemblies apart over the weekend trying to get 1 button, the back edge just crumbled on both. Decided to replace all my horn and starter buttons with new to avoid the disaster down the road.

I found this site as I was looking for replacements.
You mentioned that the plastic just crumbled, this might be a way to go.

He's a XS650 guy. I know lots of people use his bottons. Most choose the aluminum ones.

            starter button

            Hi Marty
My button crumbled on starting the XS11....so I'm glad you posted the site for a replacement part, thanks save me some chasing around Marty.
The bike is running with plenty of blue smoke as its not run in a year. I do have a kick start on it so will make do with that till the button arrives.
