I am in the market for a rear tubeless rim for a 78E in good shape. It would have to be free of deep gouges and such so that it can be cleaned up to showroom condition, but grime, gunk, and stains are OK. I would prefer it in a 16" instead of 17" due to the much greater choice/options of tires.

    Thanks.

    Tod

I have a 79 Special and 80 MN special (gold) rear rims and will only need one of them to finish the projects that I have. When I get home today I can post pictures of them. Both have been out of service for 10+ years and I have not looked that closely at them for gouges.

      17 in rim

Tod: 78E standard rim was 17 in. Nothing came with 16 in til 79 Special.
I believe you have to use a different rear brake mounting to switch over to the 16 in.
I don't know if you cna maintaim original rolling diameter with a 16 in on that bike, but perhaps others might Know & pitch in.

Finally, I have both 16 & 17 in rims available, in tubeless. I can check for bumps & bruises, but i think they're generally OK, & will be CHEAP.

If the brake discs are the same outer diameter, I wouldn't see a problem having to mess with anything on the brakes, but maybe someone else would know?

I realize it's going to change the gearing a bit from the 16 to the 17, but I was going to install an 850 final drive also and that should be close enough. This is going to be for that Bob Jones Green Limey bike, so that's why I needed something that can be made to look new.

You wouldn't like it, Ben. The muffler is attached way to well for you.

Although, when you rip up the throttle, it gets loud enough that you wonder if there's a muffler there.

Sure I would its exactly the same system that fell off my XJ ...BTW its a lousy system as your cornering or lean angle to the right side is severely limited...and just thinking about leaning in is enough to make it scrape the road...Dont quite see what Bob Jones saw in this system...its cheap.
