  • WTB: Gas tank bolt - Flasher

I know I've got that bolt & oval washer/rubber part here, somewhere...

Just rehabbed my turn signal flasher unit but not sure I really "cured it". Would be good to have one that's working properly.

Just go buy a bolt and a fender washer. I it is an M6 (or maybe M8) x 1.25 thread pitch. Anything between 10 and 30mm in length would work. I do know it is a 12mm wrench that you need to take the bolt off.

If your J is the same as mine, you might find it hard to replace the oblong rubber washer, as, if I remember right, it had ribs around the outside edge.
A workable substitute might be made with a razor knife, a rubber hole punch, and a section of sidewall out of a car tire.

I don't think the XJ uses the same flasher as the XS, as you have to change a couple of wires around to use a two wire automotive flasher on the XJ where you don't on the XS, which leads me to believe that the pinout is different on the XJ vs the XS.

Lee, I don't have the XJ DVD with its parts reference with me. I lost power from Irene & that info is on my home computer. When I get back to CT I'll check & see if the part # for my flasher is the same as for your bike. If it is I'll take it. Mine's working just fine right now but I know my "fix" was just a band aid. I did look up the bikes that share the same relay & there's quite a few of them but I have no idea what they are.

Actually I believe if it's not a direct swap, worst case is that you have to swap two wires to make the XS unit work, as IIRC it's two pins that are swapped on the XJ in relation to the XS.
