If needed you can buy new clusters at WWW.mikesxs.net
Can get new cables from motion pro.
Need to know, standard or special gas tank.
Kick lever, if you are leaving the lever on a xs750 or xs850 lever works best. Did you look under the battery to see if your lever was still there, does your bike even have the kick start internal parts (80+ doesn't have kick start as an option)?Nathan

I have the 79 Special with a beautiful custom painted tank, just want a second to customize or a larger one for long rides.
As for the kicker, yeah it's there but the threads on the kicker are jacked up, and I want it on there all the time.
Thanks for the info on the other stuff!DirtyNasty

It has been mentioned here lately that the only way to put a standard tank (more fuel) is to cut the special seat pan. If I am wrong someone will correct me, but if I am right that may open a whole new can of worms! You may also need a standard seat.1979XS1100SF

I know Fred has stated he did cut his Special seat pan back a little for the standard tank to fit. I do not htink you want a Standard seat, there are more differences than just the length of the seat pan.
Really, it is not that big of a deal or to hard to trim the pan back and re-pull the cover tight around it.Life is what happens while your planning everything else!

The '78-79 are the same, the '80-81 are the same. The difference is the plugs where the controls connect to the main harness. Other differences is the '80-81 also have a 'hazard' switch (4-way flasher) on the left control, and most '79 and all '80-81 lack the 'headlight on-off' switch on the right control (which nobody uses anyway...). The rest of the switches function the same (and have most of the same parts), so it's entirely possible to swap them once you change the plugs. One helpful thing is the wire color codes are all the same, so if you match colors you'll be ok.Fast, Cheap, Reliable... Pick any two
